Meet Daniel Scherl of Scherl Photography in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Scherl.

Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Both my father and one of my brothers were into photography and I always thought that the images they captured were fascinating. Inspired, I started practicing with a beginner camera when I was fourteen and immediately fell in love with it. I got my first professional camera when I was nineteen and the rest is history!

I’ve often said that it’s breathtaking what you can discover at 1/250th of a second.

Has it been a smooth road?
Creatively, it’s been a PHENOMENAL road. Every year has been better since I picked up my first camera, and to this day, I am still very much in love with photography and continue to find amazement and awe in imagery.

Like any business, there were hiccups along the way learning how to navigate client demand, the different personality types in the world, and bringing the focus (excuse the pun) from not just the creative, but to managing a burgeoning business.

My main goal with photography has always been, and still is, three-fold: One, to capture and create the best images I can. Two, to provide the kind of customer service and experience I would want as a client. We live in a world where the “service” portion of it isn’t cared for as much as it should be, and that’s very important to me. Three, to never forget to have fun. If I ever stop enjoying the art of photography, I won’t want to continue doing it as a business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Scherl Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business motto is: Come experience the difference… that experience makes.

For more than twenty years, we’ve been fortunate enough to shoot all around the world for various high-end clients. We’re based in Los Angeles and while we shoot a large variety of work, we specialize in actor headshots and travel, nature, and photojournalism photography.

A recent job we loved, took us to Portugal, England and France for the International Gourmet Food Festival, where we worked side-by-side with different Michelin Star Chefs from all over the globe. It was a fantastic (and delicious) experience!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Abroad, we want to continue to travel and tell stories through imagery for our clients around the globe. Here in L.A., we want to continue to offer a really creative, fun, and inspiring environment for actors so their headshots get them in the door. We love actors!
