Meet Daniel Freitas of dFrito Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Freitas.

Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love and passion for creating video and photo content started back when I was in high school. I’d snag my mom’s digital camera and film everything. I enjoyed making videos of me and my friends playing sports, recreating other videos we saw or simply goofing around, Some of my original videos are still live on YouTube (don’t mind the awful quality, I was using a digital camera from the early 2000s!). After high school, I got my hands on an action camera. This camera took my videos and photos to the next level. It was so small and lightweight, I took it everywhere with me. The camera attached to a variety of accessories that gave me the ability to capture some really cool things! My love for videography and photography continued to grow and I decided to purchase my first “REAL” camera. I purchased a used camera from a friend of mine who was in the film industry. I took the camera everywhere I went and captured as much as I possibly could. Creating content was my favorite hobby, by far, and I was doing it purely for fun.

In the summer of 2017 I was lucky enough to shoot professional beach volleyball players competing on the AVP, as well as NBA players practicing in the off season. The content I got from these two events gave my portfolio a huge boost. Towards the end of the summer 2017, I began to receive inquiries about my work and that was when I realized my hobby might be turning into something more. I decided to go for it, I created my brand and started working with a variety of clients. For more than a year, I put in 40 hours a week at my 9-5 office job and then spent another 20-30 hours on my passion project which was quickly starting to turn into a real business. After just about a year of hustling 80+ hours a week, I decided to leave my office job of six years to invest all my time and energy in dFrito Media.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting is the first bump – you have to summon the courage to stray from the “path” and trust your vision and goals. It’s exciting but also a bit scary. The particular industry I’m in has a certain level of volatility given that it is people and relationship-based. For instance, social distancing has been a unique hurdle for me because so much of what I do requires social interaction. Despite the bumps, I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Being a one man band can be an obstacle itself. Integrating the creative side with the business side can be challenging, but that challenge is where I find my joy and reward as a business owner.

Please tell us about dFrito Media.
dFrito Media is a content creation and social media management company. Specializing in authentic, compelling and engaging content. I produce short-form content that is easy to consume that lives on social media to promote products/services but also generate traffic to websites & social media platforms. I work closely with clients to create innovative and effective campaigns to help build and enhance their brand.

I am most proud of the relationships and connections I have made with athletes, brands and other creatives. Being able to convey the brand’s message or story through creative content is extremely rewarding. Knowing that the client loves what you created for them to share across all the different platforms is one of the things I love the most about what I do.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I really don’t think I would do anything differently if I had to start over. Everything that has transpired in the last few years has helped me become who I am today. All the trials and tribulations I had to overcome, have taught me something that I will carry on with me into the future. There is a lesson learned each day in this always changing industry.
