Meet Daniel Dvorak of Dean Decay in SCV

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Dvorak.

Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Dean Decay started as a solo project in July 2018 focused on the drum machine and guitar looping. The album that streams on Spotify resemble that project. We call our genre “Newer Wave.”

Since July we have been able to start playing as a band and are super excited to have people listen. We remain super busy, playing the Whiskey a-go-go twice as well as plenty of shows every month, usually three. Starting in December we will begin recording, thus allowing even more people to hear. The biggest compliment we receive is how our music reminds them of when they were young, touching on music from The Cure, Talking Heads, and Joy Division.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Playing as a solo project, things were really easy to play as a supporting act; as there are plenty of great bands playing in LA today. Since then, it hasn’t been too difficult to play. We look forward to booking our shows and seeing where that can take us; after we record a proper full band album. The biggest obstacle; as with busy lifestyles is scheduling. Albeit a small problem, it has been the biggest obstacle.

Tell us more about your music.
Dean Decay specializes in New Wave style music. It’s something about the shimmering chorus of the guitars and the danceable snares of the drums. We love to offer our modern take of the genre by utilizing some modern tones brought on by modern equipment and playing styles. We also utilize more modern music theory that allows the audience to further take part in the music.

Instagram is the best place to stay up to date with the band and our shows.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We’re very lucky to have met each other in our lives. Many of the band members have known each other since high school. But the two other members we feel just as lucky to have a party of the sonic family. Aside from the that; lucky for all the people and bands we have met along the way! They all have been very supportive.
