Meet Dani Gold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Gold.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dani. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been extremely entrepreneurial. I have been interested in wine since my first trip to Europe in my early 20’s. My husband and I bought 30 acres in Paso Robles in 2002 and built a winery from the ground up. I worked in every aspect of the process from vineyard to winemaking to marketing and distribution. I loved working with our winemaker and tasting through all of the barrel samples to come up with the perfect blend. I fell in love with the winemaking culture and the vineyards. We sold the winery in 2014 and moved back to Newport Beach after we had or son but my passion for wine never left me. We were a boutique winery specializing in Rhone Wines in the $30-$60 range. I always had the idea of making a less expensive wine that everyone could enjoy and eventually Dani Gold Wines was born. With less than 4% of winery owners being female and less than 10% female winemakers, I am in a great position to market a wine made and produced by a woman.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am so passionate about wine and the entire process that coming up with the label, name, and marketing idea has been a fun process. Unfortunately coming up with the capital to fund the project has been a bit difficult. The traditional fundraising avenues have not been successful. Only 3% of all woman-owned business are funded by VC’s. So I have been looking at more creative ways to raise money. I was set to do a presentation to an all-female investment group in March but then COVID hit and everything has been placed on hold. I am still actively searching for investors as I know the wine industry is doing quite well. Especially the Direct-to-consumer sector.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dani Gold Wines – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We will be starting production with a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon and adding a red blend down the line. Price points will be around $20.00 with a higher-end line coming out down the road. I am proud of the fact that I am one of the very few female-owned wine labels in the country.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Looking forward to building Dani Gold Wines brand so that it becomes a household name. I am looking forward to becoming a leader in the industry and proving that I can make difference in how the industry views woman in the field.
