Dana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My first job out of college was in ad sales at eonline.com. After that, I went to work in online marketing at etoys.com. Those experiences helped me learn from behind the scenes how businesses convert people into customers. I learned a lot and it was fun to be a part of the emerging ecommerce industry.
Fast forward to 2002, I got pregnant with twins and decided the unknown of the 9 months to follow may be a good time to take a break and focus on me. After two wonderful years at home with the kids, it was time to get moving and shaking again.
2004, eBay was still fairly new to most people. My husband had been selling some things on it from time to time and kept trying to get me to try it out and sell things out of my closet. After many months of “no’s” and “it looks too complicated” I decided to take a deep breath and give it a try. He was right, I did love it. Seeing what other people were willing to pay for things I already enjoyed was a really exciting.
Word spread that I was doing this and many friends asked me to sell things for them. It got really viral really quick. Bags of stuff piled up in my bedroom and it was not long before my husband convinced me to start looking for an office. With a little good old grass roots marketing, my client base grew quicker than expected and my need for more and more office space continued to grow. 13 years later and 4 office moves, we are settled and thriving! It’s been an interesting ride as I had started this business with very little players in the field and now the marketplace is flooded with other resale businesses. I work hard to stay connected to my clients who I sell for and my buyers and offer a top notch level of service to ensure complete satisfaction on all sides. My clients know that they can count of me to deliver great sales most times above market value, and my customers know they are getting authentic items in wonderful condition. It’s a win-win for all.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The entrance of many new consignment resellers meant that buyers had many many more options when purchasing items. So we continue to work at keeping our website full of fabulous items for all!
