Meet Dana Rabat of My Styling Escapades in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Rabat.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been interested in fashion and design, ever since I was a child. My teachers would always scold me for doodling in my Notebooks when I should be paying attention. Jokes on them! I excelled in my classes and still got to pursue my passion for design. I majored in interior architecture in Dubai and took fashion courses to give myself multiple career options. While studying, I started to really get into the design scene in Dubai. I built connections with local designers and went to multiple fashion events and shows. I worked hard and had a lot of fun and I knew that I belonged in the fashion/design scene. I felt like I established a great network in Dubai and after graduating, I started planning the next steps in my design journey. I traveled to Milan with my best friends as a graduation gift. That trip really opened my eyes to the wonders of architecture and style and I vowed to go to Milan fashion week as soon as I was able to. Upon my return back to Dubai, my parents shocked me with some news that put a huge gap in my life plans.

My parents wanted to move to LA! This was very unexpected and I couldn’t see the great opportunity that It was. All I could think about was losing my friends and the life I’ve built for myself in Dubai. I was paralyzed by the fear of not being able to rebuild from scratch in the famous city of LA. So we packed our bags and flew across the world to a city we weren’t really familiar with. A few months in, I realized that this would be a challenge and I took it upon myself to view this change as a fresh start. That’s when I decided to start my fashion blog, which was a great way to enter the design scene in LA. I took my design experience and everything I’ve learned so far and put it into my blog aesthetics. Fast forward to today, I’m working at a great firm pursuing my passion for design, I met so many amazing personalities and I’m tackling the crazy city of LA head on. I’m also super proud of my blog that’s growing at a great pace! Moral of the story, life can throw crazy things at us when we least expect it, but we can always look at the positive side and work hard to overcome any obstacles. I know my journey isn’t going to be smooth but I’m excited to see what new challenges lie ahead!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to LA from Dubai was a huge challenge in itself. I had to meet new people and form brand new relationships which is really hard when you’re not in a school environment. That really did develop my social skills though, which I’m grateful for. Another challenge I faced was moving out of my parent’s house and into a new apartment in downtown LA. It was my first time living on my own but it really took me out of my comfort zone and was a new fun experience. It helped me come up with new creative styles and ideas that I’ve incorporated into my blog.

Please tell us about My Styling Escapades.
My blog is called my styling escapades and it’s just that. It’s about taking my followers with me on my journey in design and fashion. I share my authentic self with my followers and come up with new exciting twists on common trends. Since starting my blog about a year ago, I’ve done so many cool collaborations with brands I admire, I’ve traveled to cool places I’ve never been to before and formed new relationships with bloggers around the world. The best part was I got to take my followers with me on my journey. My blog is still in its beginning phase but I’m excited to see what new things are coming!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a social butterfly is definitely the number one most important characteristic you will need when starting a new blog. Time management is another one. For me personally, these two skills have really helped boost my work. Being able to draw people in and communicate effectively is very important. Time management has also really helped me balance my job and my blog.
