Meet Dan Paviolo of OC Performing Arts in Brea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Paviolo.

Dan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My wife and I were in rock bands back in the 1980’s and played all over LA and Southern California; that is how we met. We decided to go back to school and get our degree’s and once we did, people started asking us if we could teach them how to play/sing. Our business started in our home, grew to a very small store front location, and then within four years, grew to the location it is today, next door to Guitar Center, Brea.

We believe that everyone has some kind of musician, singer, performer artist inside of them, and our passion is to provide instruction and encouragement to help them achieve their goals and aspirations.

In 2013, we learned that our Grandson was Autistic, so at that time, we started our non-profit foundation, OC Performing (the non-profit part of our business) with the goal of providing everyone, but with a focus on those with Autism and special needs, to participate in the arts.

Over the past four years, we have produced four theatrical musical shows, featuring kids with Autism, in significant roles. It is such a joy to see these kids grow and improve in their communication skills, through the chance to be in a production.

Our music school focuses on providing private lessons to anyone with a desire to learn to play an instrument, sing, or learn to act in a musical. We have found that each person learns differently, and the quickest way to master a performing arts discipline, is to work with a professional who can custom tailor the lesson plan, to your needs and goals.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Achieving a goal of this magnitude will always have bumps along the way; running a business is like raising children. It is never without challenges but it is so rewarding to see your clients reach their dreams. Maintaining a positive outlook is critical to success, and recognizing that there is no supervisor you can turn to when things don’t go as planned; everything stops with you, the owner. Staying focused on our strength, which is building and caring for relationships, and having perseverance, has brought us to where we are today.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the OC Performing Arts story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a full performing arts school, specializing in providing custom tailored, private lessons, and musical theatre classes to our community. What sets us apart is our dedication to the client service experience, and caring for our clients. We are grateful that we have had instructors work for us, who have gone on to achieve great success in the industry they serve, and to see our clients obtain their goals as well.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We wouldn’t call it luck, but would call it finding divine favor at every obstacle, barrier and opposition that presented itself, and that same divine favor continues to be our driving force moving us ever closer to our dreams.
