Meet Damon Brown of Creative Lou in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Brown.

Damon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was young, I was mesmerized by morning cartoons and comic books. I was always doodling or drawing. One morning, I remember enjoying a bowl of cereal while being entertained by the box itself. I was blown away by how chaotic and engaging the box of cereal was. The design on the box combined words, cartoons, and information into something so amazing. I knew at that moment I wanted to draw for a living.

My journey into visual arts led me to the design field, where I learned to reduce designs to just the essential and to communicate ideas in a simplified manner. My daytime career was in design, but I was lo-key working on my style and skills as an artist. My creative process borrows a lot from that of a designer. My work is a mix of art and graphic design with influences from urban and classical art.

After getting over the insecurities of my art, and having several health scares, I realized tomorrow isn’t promised, and I decided to share my art with the world. I started a company/studio under the name Creative Lou. The name is based off a nickname I was called during the early creative stages of my life. Now my art is in galleries, on custom beer labels, and I am beginning to be commissioned for creative project opportunities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far I would say it’s been a pretty smooth ride. I get to do what I love. This is a new journey for me. I didn’t know what to expect once I put my art out to the world. My journey started by being invited to display my work at an art showcase event. It’s been a great ride from there. It has been challenging navigating the creative community and space and participating in social events. What I enjoy most is creating in my studio. I enjoy talking to people who like art or have questions about my art, but it’s a new space for me to learn how to navigate.

Creative Lou – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is a creative art/design studio where I learn, practice, collaborate and create everything from graphics to visual art. It brings great satisfaction working on something creative that will engage and inspire people everywhere. I recently created new work I will be releasing soon. My current work is influenced by classical art mixed with graphic design. My compositions are influenced by things I’m passionate about and the unique way I see the world. Being able to translate that into something stylistic and visual is what sets me apart.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has to be having my artwork displayed in galleries a close second would be the various commission requests I’ve received for custom art.
