Meet Dalton Cyr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton Cyr.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. After seeing an elementary school friend star in a local musical production, it only took one show for me to look at that and say, “that seems fun- let me try it!” A year later, I auditioned for the next production (overcoming pretty gnarly stage fright to do so) and booked a large supporting role. After my first show, I decided to take my hard-earned singing ability and guitar (I had been playing for a couple of years at that point) and write my own songs and stories to share with people. Three albums, hundreds of concerts, and many thousands of miles later, I’m now in Los Angeles, currently recording my fourth album with producer Mikal Blue. LA is my place now- and for a couple of years I’ve been able to share my songs and stories with others here, and portray some great characters on the screens as an actor (Pretty Little Liars, Silent Life, Time Toys).

Please tell us about your art.
I make guitar-based pop music, writing songs and sharing the stories found within them wherever I go. I’ve been told I give people hope with my songs, and show others that they aren’t alone in life- and I love that! More than anything else, I see myself as a storyteller. Everything I do in life: songwriting, performing, acting- all fall under the sort of “life umbrella” I carry that is storytelling.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think in many ways, there has never been a better time to become an artist. From a music standpoint, the sheer potential each artist holds now is incredible. With the power of the internet and our modern society, an artist can really launch themselves and their story to millions of people- on their own. Artists can venture out online, find people who relate to and appreciate their stories and move from there. Next thing you know, you can have a strong community of listeners, fans, and friends, just by creating what you like and sharing it how you please. It’s pretty incredible. Of course, with such freedom comes a bit of “saturation in the market” as some would say- but I personally believe that as every person is uniquely individual, so is every artist. In short, there is definitely enough space for everyone, and as long as you are authentic and true to yourself, nobody else is taking “your spot”.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My first three albums are available for stream and purchase everywhere- Spotify, Apple Music, etc. You can watch my long-form music video trilogy “Breathe” on YouTube via search and find my other music videos on my Official YouTube Channel (Dalton Cyr).
