Meet Czar Szn of Season of the Czar in South Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Czar Szn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Czar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off in a photography class in high school where I attended CATCH (Crenshaw Arts Tech Charter High); they never supplied us w real cameras so I spent time taking pictures on my phone and editing them for fun even tho it barely felt like the real thing. When I graduated in 2014 my mother and my grandfather surprised me w my very own Canon.

I attended SMC after high school and took a beginners class as well as a photojournalism class until 2016. I dropped out of college after being insulted by a professor who clearly knew nothing about culture but asked for a cultural piece. I figured it was stunting my growth and hindering me from what I really wanted out of my craft. I’m a “go w the flow” kind of person; I like to let life take me where I’m going. I started off shooting whatever I was drawn to and in 2018, I committed myself to starting my own untraditional solo exhibitions where I showcase my work and anybody who’s anybody can come through see the work and me in person. On June 23rd, I successfully through Season 1. Late August 2018, my brother Six Sev asked me to shoot his Pray for the Hood campaign which turned out to be a lot deeper than just a tshirt. Early September we threw our first Pray for the Hood and it has become a significant movement in our lives and it is our contribution to the community we were raised in. Our first PFTH was held right in Leimert Park; outside. We have kept the movement in Leimert Park which is a very important staple in the Crenshaw District. He is not only my business partner but my family too.

I am currently best known for being myself; I say that because I simply do what I love because I love it. If you fuck w it then I fuck w you and I’m happy you see the vision we see for our city and the Crenshaw District. I am currently curating Season 6 and PFTH 6 will be coming soon as well. I’m a part of few groups/labels; PFTH, We Love Leimert, ChillAF, LFTFLD, Eat or Die Records and In The Trap Records. I thank them so much for including me in their immaculate projects and for having a genuine love for my work. On March 31st, we lost our community leader; Nipsey Hussle. I was out at a friend’s baby shower w some very close friends and it seemed unreal. It still feels unreal and we are still grieving. My imagery for his Final Victory Lap was a very groundbreaking thing for me because it was the first time my work ever went viral and the first time I attempted to shoot w a telephoto lens. I’ll forever cherish Hussle, his blueprint and my community for supporting me every step of the way. RIP Hussle and RIP Kobe & Gianna.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can consider my road rather smooth but w a few curves rather because I’m going w the flow. I don’t really feel like anything is an obstacle because everything happens w time and what’s meant for you is always for you. I just do what feels right.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What sets me apart is, none of this is for anything in return, clout or whatever other bullshit people are chasing. I just want to shoot what I love for the rest of my life and if you fuck w it; that’s my blessing. I only know a few people who really do this shit w nothing but the love in their hearts and the inspiration of life. I only wish to remain humble and to be recognized for my work.

What makes me most proud is that it is all from the heart. Sometimes I take longer w orders bc life be hitting me, but, I always have that reassurance from my client that it is well worth the wait and I exude my love for their support. Money comes and money goes, but when you have what money can’t buy people gone fuck w you. If there’s one thing I learned is that you don’t have to speak on who you are or how you carry yourself; the work speaks for itself, your very presence speaks for itself.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck Shmuck; just move with good graces and the universe will bless you. Don’t try to run people over or give them a run for their money. Be yourself and accept the truth about things.
