Meet Cyrill Reiser of Swiss IT in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyrill Reiser.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cyrill. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story starts in a tiny town in Switzerland called Pfungen. That’s where I spent my entire childhood and some parts of my early adulthood. I have amazing parents, who were always very supportive of any dreams that I wanted to pursue. After I graduated from high school I got a degree in IT systems engineering and soon after landed my first job. I was just living a regular Swiss life, doing the 9 – 5 job thing, weekends off and some holidays, that was my life. Suddenly I had one of those life changing moments you usually only see in movies when a girl walks into the room and you just know that that is the person you are going to marry!

The two of us bonded instantly, but it turns out she was from Los Angeles and was gearing up to leave back home. This was due to happen just two weeks after we met! So she went back home, we did the long distance thing for a few months, but then I said to myself: “I really love this girl and I am going to move to the US to be with her.”

I needed to figure out how I was going to get there, however I was already doing some acting in Switzerland so I decided to go to an acting school in Los Angeles. I applied, got in, and a few months later I was on a plane to LA… and I never looked back.

After a year of school, I realized I needed to earn money, funny how that works, but I was on a student visa at the time so I wasn’t too sure what my options were. I managed to get a job in the IT field with a company that was generous enough to sponsor my work visa and allow me an opportunity to stay here in the US. But I just never really enjoyed the 9 – 5 lifestyle and yearned for more freedom and flexibility. As soon I got my Green Card 4 years later I stared my own little IT company doing computer repair, remote support and things like that. Swiss IT is born.

The business began to grow and I grew with it, adding new aspects to the company piece by piece. Swiss IT now focuses more on website design and some tech support with a dynamic creative department.

It took about 2 years for me to be able to make a living, but the journey was worth it, and it most certainly isn’t over! I hope to grow in this industry, to build and to create, and eventually raise a family the way I was raised: with love and support in achieving one’s dreams while staying true to oneself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, there were multiple road blocks that made things difficult here and there. Some of the issues were more organizational, or rather, logistical. Trying to build a business while maintaining a side job is a tough balancing act that proved to be rather difficult to sustain.

On the mental side, it was very challenging to believe that this whole thing was going to work. Somewhat of an existential crisis: if I quit my job will I be able to support myself? Etcetera etcetera. It was immensely stressful but I managed to turn that stress into challenges which inspired me to work harder, finding solutions for even the toughest of problems.

So no, it certainly wasn’t smooth but we all know it’s more about the journey than the destination.

Swiss IT – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The services we provide are a unique hybrid between technical IT services and creative services.

We build websites for a wide variety of clients and businesses ranging from actors and artists to fitness studios and law firms, however our creative team has the capability to write dynamic copy or even design your logo if that’s what you need us to do.

On a more technical side we also provide unique online marketing services that are aimed at creating more leads for our clients and therefore more revenue.

We also handle regular IT services, like remote support and system backups, things of that nature. In a nutshell, we are a badass fully fledged digital agency!

In terms of pride: we’re a very dynamic and unique company, from our employees to our services, and I believe what we do and how well we do it represents those ideologies.

As a leader, I encourage fellow team members to be themselves and celebrate who they are, allowing them to inject their passions and personalities into their work. Creating a work environment like that is something that I am very proud of!

I think what sets us apart from others is the relationships we build with our clients on a human level. We strive to make sure that every client feels like they can holistically rely on us at every turn. I guess you could call it trust.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The proudest moment of my career so far was taking the momentum of Swiss IT and utilizing its recourses to give back to communities around the world.

Last year I travelled to Cambodia and spent a month engaging in volunteer work, focusing specifically on teaching and developing IT infrastructure at a local school. That was defining moment for my company but more so for me as a person.

So I met Cyrill in Cambodia ( I am the one with the green t-shirt)
He knows what he is doing and knows a lot about ( in this case) web design.
Our biggest challenge was to cooperate with the Cambodians, cause their English was on a basic level.
But I think Cyrill really stands out in explaining what he is doing and why it is necessary.
    A good, big hearted guy!
