Meet Cynthia Glanzberg of OneTea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Glanzberg.

It all started on a two-year trip around the world. After countless hours in local tea houses and village homes in numerous countries, Cynthia started to think differently about tea. She saw firsthand how this one plant has the power to bring together people from all walks of life. It didn’t matter what language was being spoken around her, where she was geographically, or any other cultural context – once tea was presented, she knew she was welcome. This universal language drove Cynthia to launch OneTea, creating spaces for people to gather and connect over tea.

Today, OneTea is a roaming teahouse, spreading the idea that we can all connect over this one common beverage. OneTea sources tea and herbs from farms that focus on sustainability and ethical practices all over the world. With OneTea, you can see the world through a cup of tea.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One thing we find that is a hurdle even still is that there is no real historical context of a loose leaf tea culture in the United States. Many people are only familiar with tea bags from major corporations, who benefit from the poor working conditions in many foreign countries, low-quality products, and utilizing harmful pesticides, chemicals, and other toxins to produce a mass product super cheaply. Switching the public perception to grasp the benefits, not only to the environment but to their own bodies of high-quality loose leaf tea has been a learning process.

We’re a roaming teahouse. We source and sell high-quality loose leaf tea from some of the world’s best and most progressive farmers. Our farm partners pride themselves on their craft and do so sustainably and ethically. We pop-up at markets, parties, festivals, and pretty much anywhere tea can be consumed. We’re expert tea consultants to restaurants, cafes, and bars, helping food establishments elevate their tea programs. We’re proud to be changing the narrative of tea, from the dusty tea bags of major corporations to lively and approachable tea made by real expert craftsmen.

What were you like growing up?
Not to be overly cliche, but I’ve always been a wanderer at heart. I’ve always been fascinated by the world, obsessing over maps and globes when I was very young and finding any way I could to explore outside my little suburban bubble. I was (and still am) insanely curious, asking every and anyone a million questions about their lives, their upbringing and their views on the world.
