Meet Crystal Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Garcia.

Hi Crystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Christmas is supposed to be a joyful time of year but the day I returned from maternity leave, in December of 2019, I was told that the company was downsizing and my role as Executive Director was being eliminated.

What a blow to the stomach, which was still healing postpartum by the way to be let go from a position that I truly enjoyed developing Executive Coaching programs for C-Suite leadership throughout the country.

Our family made it through Christmas and planned to move forward in March of 2020 which would allow my body (and soul) time to heal, with four children, a six weeks old baby and $60k in savings in the bank.

Needless to say, God had other plans because in March 2020 the world was hit with a global pandemic, and two days before the Jill Scott concert but that’s another story. Lol!

In April of 2020, God gave me a vision to start Propelcon by tapping into my CON-nections to help propel people and their businesses. Bringing together experts with my added experience in sales, marketing and product life cycles was more than a dream, it was a mission.

I have a saying when God gives you a vision you have a responsibility to see it through. So here I am.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, how I wish I could say it was easy but this has been a true faith walk when you look at your draining bank account and have kids to feed. It’s different being single and struggling to be a whole adult and someone’s momma bit every day He (God) kept me.

The business has also evolved from the initial vision God gave me was to do a conference, propelling your business and personal barns in the current climate which was a pandemic at the time so Propel-Con was born! The first conference was AMAZING so we did more on various topics but God was like nope, I didn’t tell you to do that.

After investing in a lot of stuff A.K.A. Equipment and software to produce a high-quality conference Propelcon served the world as a virtual events company. All the while, I stayed busy helping people launch businesses and their personal brands for FREE because I didn’t think that was my business.

So yeah, working full-time hours as an entrepreneur for part-time pay took faith!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The breakthrough came when Traci Otey Blunt, I jokingly say Google her but really, Google her!!! Traci has been voted one of the most Influential Black Women in America and is a public relations expert serving The Who’s Who in sports, politics and entertainment. She was even the Director of African American media for Madame Secretary Hilary Clinton during her campaign for President.

Traci is a sought-after speaker and host and learned about what I was doing through a personal connection. She was my first paying client and gave me the opportunity to develop on HER personal brand!!! The personal branding guru to the stars was trusting PROPELCON and our team of superstar creatives but in reality she was trusting God. This is literally the manifestation of “Won’t He do it?!!!!”

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when I was about five years old my father was sick. I remember bringing him a concoction of every medicine I found in the refrigerator and saying “take two of these and call me in the morning”. That was a saying from a popular Robitussin commercial at the time. It was in the ’80s so some readers might remember that. I share that memory because all my life, I had planned to be a doctor.
