Meet Cristian Munoz of MNM Couture in Fashion District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristian Munoz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cristian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Though I am from Chile and lived there for twenty years, I started my career as a graphic designer in Canada. After working there for a little while, I moved to Los Angeles to work as a graphic designer at a fashion company. I had a good sense of how the industry worked after one year, so I decided to move closer to the fashion district. I rented an apartment in downtown LA where I started my first online wholesale business. This business led me to my current co-owner of MNM Couture, Samir Matta. It took us three months to rent our first small warehouse and six months to hire our first employee. We have been a company for seven years and have expanded to open a retail shop, Couture Shop LA, in Downtown LA.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. The challenging part is building a team, because this industry is very much a niche– every time someone comes on board, we have to completely train them on this unique area of fashion. After three months of training, they may realize it is not for them and leave. So, the whole process starts over.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MNM Couture – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
MNM Couture has grown so much, and I am very proud of how we are still in this competitive market. Our competitors are companies who have been around for over twenty years, while we have been around for seven. As of 2017, we distribute to over 300 international and national boutiques. We specialize in making couture dresses for women, starting at size 0 and going up to size 28. This range of sizes is very, very unique for the industry. We are making a name in the pageant and the red carpet scene with our variety of beautiful styles, all designs from the MNM Couture brand.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am planning on taking this business into Beverly Hills and opening a second retail store in that area.
