Today we’d like to introduce you to Crisanto Santa Ana.
Crisanto, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got into music during high school. I was heavily into break dancing and would create my own mixes to dance to. My crew/group of friends and myself would eventually get into DJING, making beats and rapping. We all went to school in Orange County and we would drive to LA to go record shopping every weekend.
I also would listen to DJs on the radio. They would have these hour-long mixes that mesmerized me. I was so intrigued on how they would transition from song to song smoothly and how they would scratch the records. One of my biggest influences was The Wake Up Show. It was a radio show that would have MCs come in and rap and freestyle live.
After high school, and throughout college, I would go on to DJ at many hip hop shows and work with many talented artists. Throughout this time in my life, I faced many challenging times such as the death of my uncle and my father. I started to take pain killers to help me cope with it. I was spiraling into a path of self-destruction. I was DJING at parties, drinking lots of alcohol, taking pain killers. I felt my mind, spirit and body deteriorating. Finally, after about a year or so, I started to realize that this path was not going to end well if I continued. I stopped all my vices and discovered yoga, meditation and healthy living. This really helped me better my life. I was taking yoga classes, meditating daily and feeling more healthier. Somewhere along the line, I took my DJING + music with me into the yoga studio. I found myself DJING at yoga classes and other health-conscious events. This eventually grew into DJING at bigger festivals and working with big name artists, yoga teachers. I found myself DJING in front of hundreds of people, touring across the world and having a full-time career.
What were some of the biggest challenges along the way?
Dealing with death of my uncle + father. Challenges of getting addicted to pain killers
