Meet Craig Shinmon of Pathways To Volunteering in Canoga Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Shinmon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The creation of Pathways To Volunteering came from my frustration in finding a place to volunteer. Sure, there were plenty of places where I could get involved and give back but it came with a lot of requirements. I either had to attend orientation, training or make a huge time commitment. All of which I didn’t have time to do.

Pathways To Volunteering makes volunteering fun and easy. We handpicked all the activities to give the volunteer the best experience possible. The greatest gift a person can give is their time, and that’s why we make sure we pick awesome activities.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been a number of challenges from getting our tax-exempt status to raising donations to help with programs we created to give back to the community. Pathways To Volunteering is a very small organization with big dreams of changing the world.

Not to mention to learn how to use Instagram, create and maintain group pages in Facebook, design flyers, marketing the organization and there’s always recruitment.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Pathways To Volunteering is an entry point to volunteer with great ways to serve and give back to the community. Since, we began in 2015 we’ve build relationships with a number of great organizations. No matter where we go we’re always asked back because we have such a great group of volunteers.

Our proudest achievement is knowing Pathways is the pathway to volunteering. We have many volunteers who have volunteered with a particular organization and continued to serve with that organization on their own.

The other thing is bringing families together to experience volunteering. We get many parents that want to introduce service to their children. It’s awesome to see these young children get so involved in the activity and being so selfless and giving.

It’s a huge asset to the community. Our organization goes to where the activities are held and that could be anywhere in Los Angeles or in Orange County.

Pathways To Volunteering is a great place to start your pathway to volunteering. We pick great opportunities that are easy and fun. We don’t want volunteering to feel like work.

We serve the homeless, veterans, women, and children. We many organizations we join are The Midnight Mission, Junior Blind American, Veterans Holiday Celebration, Alexandria House, The Downtown Women’s Center, The L.A. Freedom Walk, Big Sunday, KYCCLA, to name a few.
