Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Tate.
Laura Tate, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My professional background is in journalism, as the former editor and associate publisher of The Malibu Times Newspaper and Malibu Times Magazine, where I was responsible for the nuts and bolts of getting the weekly paper and bimonthly magazine published. However, it was my personal love of Argentine tango that got me involved in using social media to connect with people to promote awareness of the dance. Facebook was the first social media platform I used, and in conjunction with Yahoo Groups (surprisingly still used to promote tango events today) and email marketing, I promoted local tango classes, social dances and even a major tango festival attended by dancers from around the world. I utilized my newly-found social media knowledge to implement a social media brand awareness strategy at The Malibu Times, which helped generate a stronger reader base and increased their reach beyond the City of Malibu. While I love the world of journalism and the creative process of publishing a newspaper and magazine, I wanted to travel more and have the freedom to work from home or wherever my journeys took me. So, six years ago, I left my position at The Malibu Times and used my social media skills and love of writing to launch Crackerjack Scribe, a boutique digital marketing agency. I started with one real estate client — Prudential Malibu Realty, which after building up their online brand presence, merged with the prestigious Sotheby’s International Realty West — and slowly built my company to where it is today, a thriving, busy agency helping small and large brands build a strong Web Presence. The Crackerjack Scribe team includes Web developers, social media managers, SEO experts, and writers, who work remotely from around the world, including the U.S., Philippines, Brazil and the U.K.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has been a struggle in building my agency. I started out with a bang, snagging a prestigious real estate agency as a first client. But in putting all my efforts into promoting them and a few other clients in the first few years, I forgot to market my own business. I had to go back to square one and start blogging regularly and using social media to grow Crackerjack Scribe’s Web Presence and reach new customers.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Crackerjack Scribe is a boutique digital marketing agency: We help other businesses establish and grow a Web Presence using social media and content marketing. We also offer Website development, SEO, and email marketing services, which are also an essential part of building a presence online and connecting with potential customers. While we offer overall services in building Web Presence for our clients, our primary focus is in generating engaging and useful content and growing and connecting with a brand’s fan base on social media. It is important to engage on a meaningful level with our clients’ blog readers and fan bases on social media; therefore, we create content that is original and useful or informational so that it provides value to readers. And we engage on social media in a personal, or real level. No bots! That is what I am most proud of regarding the work we do — We provide lasting value to our client base that results in loyal, long-term client-customer relationships for them.
