Meet Coxy Chiara Rodoni of Coxy in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coxy Chiara Rodoni.

Coxy Chiara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Everyone calls me Coxy, it’s my artistic name that a friend of mine gave me a long time ago. My real name is Chiara. I was born in Milan, Italy and raised between Milan and Paris. Since when I was a kid, Fashion and Films have been my greatest passions. As a kid, my favorite game was stealing clothes from my Mom and my Grandma’s wardrobes, dress up with my friends, invent stories and act out different characters. I guess that in a way my path was written in my destiny since then.

In 2003, I graduated in Fashion and Costume Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan and started working as a creative for international luxury brands, including Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Gianfranco Ferré, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, among others. I was lucky enough to be able to be mentored by some of the greatest creative geniuses who shaped my taste, my aesthetics, and my vision. I had a great career as a Fashion Designer and I’m grateful for every second of it, but at some point, I felt something was missing, there was a desire to dig deeper under the surface and find a way to express my voice and create something more meaningful and that could inspire people.

After a lost bet with a friend, I auditioned for a Theater company in Milan and started an acting path which lasted for 8 years. I’ve performed in many plays as well as designed costumes for the stage. It was a wonderful time! Being a theater actress allowed me to explore the psychology of different types of characters and gave me the opportunity to live in their shoes in many different circumstances. That’s when I realized how powerful storytelling can be.

The first time I came to Los Angeles was on a summer holiday with my Dad, I was 6 years old. He took me to the Universal Studios and while exploring the film stages I remember telling him “Dad, one day I’ll live and work here”. It took me a while to fulfill that promise, but it eventually happened and in 2013 I left Italy and permanently moved to LA.

Here I began a new chapter of my Life and was able to get closer to my childhood dream of working in films. I started with styling and designing costumes for commercials and independent films (which I still do) which gave me the opportunity to be on set, observe and learn from great directors. Meanwhile, I began creating short narrative stories for fashion brands, aka Fashion Films. I put together a team of amazing talents and the projects we’ve created so far have been selected to international film festivals and won several awards.

I hope one day to fulfill my dream to produce and direct two feature films I’m currently writing. It’s very ambitious and I know it will take time and a lot of work but I’m committed and I believe in the power of dreams and desire when they come together that’s when the magic happens!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not. It has been a roller coaster of a journey, full of ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns. I made a lot of mistakes, bad investments, trusted the wrong people, and lost an incredible amount of money. I experienced success and failure over and over again.

The biggest challenge I had to face was with no doubt the death of my parents and of my grandmother which left me heartbroken and completely alone in a country 6000 miles away from my hometown and with a very different culture than the one I grew up in.

However, my philosophy is that the only obstacles are the ones we set up in our mind and that every single step of the journey matters if we choose to learn to form it. So, it has been very challenging and extremely exciting at the same time, for I have learned a lot and I wouldn’t be who I am now had I not lived the good and the bad experiences.

The thing I am the most proud of my company is my Team, a group of extremely talented individuals that work passionately and tirelessly to deliver only the most sophisticated and high-quality results. They’re more than a team, they’re like family and I love them very much.

What set us apart from others is the culture that is at the foundation of the company.

Almost all of my team members are people that have traveled a lot or lived in different countries and they bring in an international flair and an open mind to every project we do. Also, my long career and background in Fashion served me to refine my aesthetics which is also very much looked after in our creation process. Our mission is to create beautiful visual stories with a meaningful message that can inspire the audience.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t know how to answer this question. Probably nothing.

I think that who I am today is a result of all the experiences that I had. The mistakes that I made are the ones that taught me the biggest lessons and I wouldn’t have the knowledge and experience I have today had I not learned from them. I think making mistakes is unavoidable and I know I’ll keep making them.

The only thing I keep telling myself is to always follow my intuition. She happens to be always right but sometimes there’s that little voice in my head that pops up and makes me second guess it all.
