Meet Courtney Spears of Craving Courtney’s in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Spears.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As far as me getting to where I am today, I finally listened to my friends and family and started selling my plates individually. My husband and I went to a potluck and I brought his favorite dish: Jerk Pasta. I topped it with Jerk Chicken, Jerk Salmon, and Jerk Steak to give variety to whoever was at the potluck and once they saw it, they immediately bragged about it. I absolutely loved the attention it got! One of my husband’s friends who was also at the potluck asked me (while he was eating the food) if I ever thought about selling the pasta and going into the food business. I let him know that I had just started to sell my food and he said, “you NEED to sell this to the masses immediately.” He let me know he was going to talk to his boss (Femme Creatives) about working with me on marketing, branding, etc. and within the next few days, I was meeting with Bex, the CEO of the company! We instantly clicked and I loved how excited she was to push my “brand” that I didn’t even know I had! Since then, we’ve taken off and we are only going to keep elevating!

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not! Being a mother of 4, a wife, and running not only Craving Courtney’s but my second business, Get On the Table, is NOT an easy task. It is a 24/7 job and navigating two businesses through a pandemic has also brought on an immense amount of struggles. The biggest obstacle I feel I needed to overcome was knowing that I was going to have to put myself completely in my business and leaving the “stability” of my 9-5. Thankfully, I have the full support of my family, friends, and my manager and this has truly been the most rewarding things I have ever done for myself and I’m never going to back!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Craving Courtney’s offers catering, private dining, and individual plates. So we are essentially a mobile catering company and pop up restaurant. We specialize in Cajun Seafood dishes with a slight twist. We take from all types of different foods to create a fusion of cultures all around the world. We pride ourselves on being all-inclusive rather than sticking to one genre of food. We like to think that we are known especially for our tacos, pasta, and seafood boils and the way that we combine sensuality and self-indulgence with our food. Here at Craving Courtney’s we are all in tune with our own sensuality and sexuality and like to explore that through our food. It allows us to make everything more fun and comfortable for our customers.

I’m most proud of the way that we are able to showcase that in a tasteful and playful manner. I’m proud to have so many people interested in the type of food that I like to make and I’m even more proud that they enjoy it and keep coming back for more. Knowing the balance between not taking ourselves too seriously and keeping ourselves professional is what sets us apart. We are all a group of young business professionals and we all have amazing customer service skills. So we are set apart from others because not only do we have an amazing product, we can communicate our product in a professional and playful manner that keeps our customers wanting more every single time.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
This city is amazing! Los Angeles is the heart of all things food-related! Our plans for the future is to turn this company into a brick and mortar. I understand that with COVID-19, it may be a hard thing to do but it’s not about fast you get to your end goal, but the journey that gets you there. We plan to continue as a private dining and catering business and also participate in pop up events. When the opportunity presents itself, we hope to open Craving Courtney’s officially in the heart of LA as a restaurant to serve the community and to continue sharing our food to the rest of the world.
