Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Southern California and completed my undergrad studies at USC, obtaining a BA in Film and French. While I started my career in the film/tv business, I realized after several years that it wasn’t my jam. I wanted to make an impact on the people around me — to change lives for the better — and the Hollywood production scene didn’t exactly share my goal. I should have known that real estate would be a good fit — after all, I bought my first place straight out of college and can draw the floor plan of the house I lived in as a five-year-old. But it took me a minute, and after my third successful home renovation, I decided to change careers. In residential real estate, I could see the direct positive impact I had on my clients and my community…helping them to find their place in the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Any road worth traveling has its challenges, and building a successful real estate team while balancing the roles of wife, mother, friend and human being is no exception! Professionally, my biggest challenges have come from thinking too small — knowing that we were offering an incredible service and that we believed in our mission, but failing to calculate that our good work would result in exponential growth. It seemed for years that we were always stretched too thin — trying to be everything for everyone, and compromising our own personal lives in the process. Fortunately, we have hired and trained incredible professionals who now help us cover more ground without sacrificing quality or the personal touch. Personally, my darkest days have led to my best life. It’s ironic, but the battles waged against auto-immune disease and infertility have led to the greatest happiness — our adopted daughter and biological son are the lights of our lives.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Courtney + Kurt Real Estate Team – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The people here are what make our business special. Our team is amazing — it’s a 19-person family — and I consider myself extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such incredible folks. Our team culture is one of productivity and positivity — each member supports the others and comes to work with a solution-oriented attitude and a smile. I think the unifying factor is that our team is made up of good people who do the right thing always. Yes, we sell real estate. But we are parents, neighbors and friends first and foremost. We support local businesses, we volunteer for local charitable organizations, we play in local leagues and our kids attend local schools. In short, we are community members, just like those we serve.
