Meet Courtney Bagby of Little Red Management in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Bagby.

Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I studied Advertising, Communications, and Digital Media in college and I always had an interest in marketing, brand partnerships, commercials, etc. The year I graduated college (May 2015) was the first year that Bachelor contestants started getting a following on Instagram (Chris Soules Season) and the year I realized I wanted to work for ‘those contestants’ who started making ads on Instagram. I had no idea where to start or what jobs to apply for in Los Angeles and everyone thought I was crazy for saying I wanted to work with people I saw on television. I ended up getting an amazing job at Oracle in San Francisco where I handled their internal communications and after three years, I knew I finally needed to head to Los Angeles and find a job where I could be part of influencer marketing. I applied to every brand out there that did brand partnerships with influencers and no luck.

After a couple of months in Los Angeles, my friend, who I actually helped get a job at Oracle, found a job that would be a great fit for me – a commercial talent agency where I learned more about the talent side of things. I really enjoyed it and loved everything about it except I still knew that I wanted to work with reality stars and do more social media partnerships versus with actors and actresses and commercials. I decided to leave after about a year to start my own company because over the years (even when I was living in San Francisco and working at Oracle), I would volunteer for reality star events and volunteer my time to help other reality stars with their podcasts, websites, etc. Essentially, I’d do whatever I could to build those relationships with them so that when the time came, I could work with them. My biggest piece of advice is, slide into those DMs 😉

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road for me but I never gave up. Be persistent and follow your dreams. I added a lot of people on LinkedIn and sent so many DMs so that I could learn more about different people’s jobs and really hone in on what exactly I wanted to do. I applied to SO many jobs and got denied SO many times. You don’t need to find the perfect job, you can make the perfect job for yourself – really!
