Today we’d like to introduce you to Porschia Wong.
Porschia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I took a communication class in college and it was an awesome course. It was a class discussing communication through photography. This peaked my interest and I never looked back. I started my photography business in 2011 and I have enjoyed this journey.
Has it been a smooth road?
Getting my name out there has been a challenge, It took a few years to get solid clientele. It has been amazing seeing myself grow as a photographer and seeing my business grow.
When you look back, can you point to a period when you wanted to quit or a period that was really frustrating?
When I first started, I had to make a name for myself. I often took jobs for very little to no pay. I had to keep my full-time job to pay the bills while chasing my dreams. It was encouraging for me when people praised my work. It was motivating for me to keep going after my dream.
What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
Networking is key. Also, while hearing feedback is a hard pill to swallow, it helps us to grow.
What are you most excited about these days?
Photography has taken me places that I would never imagine. I did wedding photography in Hawaii and Boston. It has been an awesome journey and it’s great to look back to see where I was when I first started and where I am now. Years from now, I hope that my journey continues to grow and I can look back and reflect on my growth.
