Meet Cooper Dai of Coosi Studio in Arcadia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cooper Dai.

Cooper, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being a spatial designer and entrepreneur involves lots of decision-making – from a sketch, material selection, to negotiations for a meticulous perfectionist like me. I went to Idyllwild Arts Academy – a top art high school in California where I learned how to be kind and brave. Holding a certificate from Harvard Business School and graduated from Art Center College of Design. Where I tend to involve a lot of sleepless nights and long hours in various projects has trained me on how to become a professional designer and entrepreneur. Then I attended grad school at Columbia University to learn from other business perspectives. The month before I graduated, I co-founded Coosi Studio – a branding studio that gathering talented designers to work on different tasks. These experiences have expanded my vision and build more connections. We are living in a fast-changing world especially during the past few months. According to the CEO of Airbnb Brian Chesky said:” Travel as we once knew it is over and it’s never coming back.” This is just the beginning of how the economy is changing. As a designer, we should use our knowledge to make a transformation in order to adapt to people’s behavior.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a natural optimist, I used to stay inside my “safe zone” and not willing to express my thoughts as well as take challenges. I believe there’s always a solution but it’s not going to work on someone who wants to become an entrepreneur. One of the challenges for me is teamwork. Some team members are very supportive, some are dominated. We need to learn how to listen to other’s voices and offer enlightenment feedback to achieve the goal. I enjoy working in a collaborative process to help clients realize their imagination even though clients never know what they want. I never hold back from trusting my gut and think it’s a boon when it came to communication with partners alike. There are lots of struggles along the way such as hearing critical critique, but I also believe that listening to different aspects is a lofty chance to be set for the indefinite future when a certain amount of success is achieved. These obstacles and experiences were not only meaningful for me as someone who has a privilege to work as a designer and entrepreneur, but also challenged me to work even harder and think comprehensively.

Please tell us about Coosi Studio.
I co-founded Coosi Studio before I graduated from Art Center. We are an extraordinary creative visual design and branding studio that offers a variety of professional services. We are known for team-up with extremely talented design professionals who graduated from top global schools and experienced employees from industry leaders. We are young, innovative, flexible, and hard-working. We process the wild spirits in the art that communicate information using color and images, and also, we equip with logical data-driven decision analysis that solid back up our design. Turns out, my boldness was effective in a professional environment. Our studio was able to see the spec advance in the contest.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There are many mistakes and miscommunications we have made during the past few years. If I had to start over, I guess I would be more knowledgeable about how to negotiate with clients. Then be more efficient.
