Today we’d like to introduce you to Constance Curtis.
Constance, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Over the past ten years, I’ve wasted countless hours of my valuable time with online dating. I’ve experienced first-hand the problems that are associated with dating websites and apps.
Online dating is too time-consuming. I’ve spent hours searching for someone I wanted to connect with. Once I’ve connected with that person, I exhausted hours talking to this person online and “googling” them to see if it’s someone I wanted to meet in person.
After investing all those hours, it’s not even a guarantee you will meet them in person!
Online ghosting is a problem. Valuable time goes into searching and vetting a potential date, and just like that, the connection suddenly disappears. All those hours I consumed trying to get to know someone… gone. Back to the drawing board.
Profiles are misleading. I can do all the “googling” and vetting I want, but there is no guarantee their profile bio or pictures are true to who they are. When I finally meet them in person, it’s typically very disappointing. Traditional matchmakers are too expensive.
After looking in to hiring someone to assist me with my love search, I learned the average matchmaker in the US charges $14,000 for a year membership. Shocking!! Not because I couldn’t afford the $14,000 but because I couldn’t believe I needed to spend that kind of money to meet my match.
Over a year ago, I started working on a solution that eliminates business professionals wasting their valuable time online dating all while driving down the cost of a traditional matchmaker without compromising the quality of service.
Fast forward to today, I’ve launched The List, a revolutionary matchmaking app, powered by real-life matchmakers, for elite singles and the first dating app to bring traditional matchmaking on to a mobile application.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth road with minor bumps along the way. There’s nothing easy about a startup! My biggest struggle was raising my first round of financing.
Given that traditional matchmaking has never been successfully taken on to a mobile application, there was skepticism if it would work or not. But I was persistent! I knew it could be done so I fought hard and four months later, closed my seed round of financing to get started!
Please tell us about The List.
The List is a revolutionary matchmaking app, powered by real-life matchmakers, for elite singles and the first dating app to bring traditional matchmaking on to a mobile application.
We are modernizing the way traditional matchmaking works. There are two ways to be a part of The List. The first way is by being a member and paying a subscription fee. With this fee, you receive your own personal matchmaker who you have met in person. Your matchmaker gets to know the client, what they are looking for and then goes to work for them!
The second way to be a part of The List is by downloading the app for free and creating a free profile. This gets you in our database and easy for our matchmakers to find you. On The List, we feature our clients and who we represent on our app. If the free member is interested in our client, they can send the matchmaker a message for consideration.
Here are some other key items that set us apart!
1) We combine human intuition with science to create better matches.
2) For paying members, online matchmakers search on and off-line on the client’s behalf, thus saving them valuable time.
3) We vet our client’s matches in person to assure our clients won’t be misled by profile pictures or ghosted online.
4) Our matchmakers follow up after dates and get feedback. We are bringing personal experience online.
5) Unlike traditional matchmaking, the users in our database can see who we represent.
6) There is a real human matchmaker online, always making sure users are behaving properly. Ghosting, rude behavior and standing someone up is not tolerated.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Vacations to San Diego during the summer with the family! I grew up in Yuma, Arizona and we had very hot summers!
Every year, my parents would pack up the family and drive to San Diego where we would spend a few weeks enjoying the ocean and cool weather! I still consider San Diego my second home. 🙂
