Meet Conrad Ercolono of Agoura Karate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Conrad Ercolono.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my training in 1983 mainly a way to get in shape. As a child I was not into sports and lacked confidence. I gained confidence and athleticism from training in the martial arts, I started assisting with classes for no other reason than my desire to help out with the program I was in. After achieving a Black Belt, I was presented with an opportunity to take over a martial arts program as the lead instructor. This was not a conscious career choice, I had a totally different path and career in mind. What I discovered is that I have a knack for teaching, and thoroughly enjoy empowering people.

Now, 35 years later, Agoura Karate is still helping people find the warrior within.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hardly! Just like anyone who wants to make their dream or hobby a business. Running a martial arts school is not just about kicking and punching, it’s about understanding basic good business practices as well. The school has been through its growing pains and ups and downs. I have been through personal challenges that would have made it easy to throw in the towel, but as is taught in martial arts, perseverance pays off!

Agoura Karate – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Agoura Karate is a self-defense program dedicated to the traditions of Martial Arts while utilizing modern practices of sports science and character development. We bring good health and personal power to all of our students, our community and the world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are many highlights competitions and higher belt ranks. Recently the opening of our latest location has been a major source of pride. It was a community effort to put it together and resulted in a fantastic space to study the martial arts.

I feel pride on a daily basis. Every time one more person has that “aha” moment about themselves is a major achievement.
