Meet Cody Lovaas in San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Lovaas.

Cody, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first picked up a guitar when I was seven years old. By the age of twelve, I was writing songs, singing, and performing at coffee shops and open mics all around San Diego (my hometown). I went to one of my open mic spots on a random Tuesday night and Jason Mraz happened to be there. After he heard my performance, he began mentoring me and introducing me to the people he knew in the industry. I started going to a bunch of writing sessions in LA trying to discover my sound and continue to flex the songwriting muscle. Last year, we began to release music with my first single, “Lie” which has streamed almost 5 million times on Spotify.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is no such thing as an overnight success. I guess you could say my road has been somewhat smooth compared to others, but I don’t think anyone has had success without struggle. Patience has been one of my most important practices throughout the years. I’m just grateful I’m doing music because my passion for what I do has and will break through any struggle that comes my way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cody Lovaas story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a singer-songwriter. At the end of the day, my main goal is to connect with people through music.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure how the real quote actually goes but it’s something like “Luck is a combination of opportunity and preparation”. I completely agree with this thought as I have had a lot of opportunities that I have been able to take advantage of. It’s all about showing up… if you aren’t available and ready when an opportunity comes your way, you can’t expect to be lucky.
