Meet Cody Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Jimenez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I fell in love with comic books and how stories can be told in that medium. The way the mind can fill in the blanks and carry the action of a panel. It was always the art that drove me to various titles. When I started painting, I realized there are ways to tell stories throughout a painting and create a narrative.

I started oil painting in my second semester in college in Las Cruces, NM. I was drawn to representational drawings and paintings that tell a story. In 2017, I received my master’s of fine art degree from Laguna College of Art + Design. Since then I have been in Orange County and paint in a shared studio space in downtown Santa Ana.

Has it been a smooth road?
Currently, I am working full time to support my daughter and myself. It has been a bit of a change compared to being in school full time for the past couple of years. My studio time has turned into little chunks of time. I have to be more efficient and have intent with what I work on now. It’s a good thing to be forced to do, but some days are rough.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cody Jimenez – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a narrative painter. “Magic realism” and “imaginative realism” seem to be the categories my paintings fall into. I create otherworldly scenes with recognizable elements, familiar but magical. I use animal, and human characters, along with vibrant psycho-emotive colors to aid viewers in understanding my paintings. There tends to be a duality of beauty and danger in the characters of my paintings.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
First Saturday Artwalks in Santa Ana is a fun time.
