Meet Cindy Jauregui of Film By CJ in Covina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Jauregui.

Cindy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been doing photography for ten years now. I’ve always loved taking photos but it wasn’t till a friend of mine was on a swing during golden hour that I ran to grab my $40 camera to capture that moment. Later that year people started to offer me money for photoshoots and thats when I realized I could make money out of this and as a 16-year-old with no job, that was something I couldn’t pass up! Every year for my birthday my parents would buy me a new camera or new photography gear. I would also use my sister as a model every free day we had to get more practice! I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family they helped me get to where I am today! Fast forward ten years later, this is one of the ways I make a living and the best part about it is that I really love doing this. Ive never been so passionate about anything other than photography. I have come along way from that $40 pink camera!

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road because I starting taking photography seriously at a young age and to a lot of people photography “isn’t a real career” so being told that so often from family, friends, strangers almost everyday was really discouraging. It didn’t stop me from doing what I love but I definitely made me doubt myself along the way. Although I won’t go into much detail, Even though photography has always been a passion of mine I sometimes felt like I wasn’t giving 100% until about three years ago when I had to have emergency surgery while I was out in Mexico. I felt like I hadn’t finished what I was here to do and felt like there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I knew that I had more to accomplish and I needed to give it my all if given the chance! Luckily for me the surgeons out there who honestly saved my life I am here with you today! Ever since I recovered, I try to give anything I have a passion for my 100%! If it wasn’t for my parent’s support and encouragement to do what I love, I really don’t know what I would be doing right now. As for those people who used to tell me to get a “real job” are people who often want to hire me as a photographer which is quite ironic.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Well, I am a photographer, I specialize in Portraits. I also do Model editorials, Product shots, Family photos, Weddings, Etc.. I really don’t put a limit to what I take photographs of. I think what I am most proud of as a company is being able to make clients visions come to life. I love that a photo can tell a story or capture a moment without saying a word. What sets me apart from other photographers is that I am always trying new things I don’t want to be in a box to only photograph a certain subject you will always see different styles from my photographs.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I live in Covina which is a suburb of Los Angeles and its great because you’re able to get your name out there to locals a lot easier! I think if you live in the area it definitely is a great place to start networking!
