Meet Christine Garrison of CMG Weddings and Events in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Garrison.

Christine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in the Bay Area of California where I fell in love with planning events at the ripe age of 5, holding annual tea parties for friends and family. Even at an early age, I poured over event details and I was always striving for that perfect party.

I traveled south for college where I obtained a Bachelors in Communications and Spanish at the University of San Diego. During college, I traveled to Argentina where I spent a semester abroad traveling as much as I could, learning about new cultures throughout South America. This inspired me to pursue a career in broadcast journalism world, starting with working for NBC. I was beyond thankful for the experience because it taught me so much about people, but I knew something was still missing.

After realizing the answer had been in front of me the whole time, I packed my bags and headed to Los Angeles where I decided to embrace my creativity and organizational skills. From that moment on, I knew I had finally found my true calling in event planning. I worked as the Senior Event Coordinator on the Santa Monica Pier where I worked on large-scale events ranging from 100-2,000 guests for notable companies such as Google, Snapchat, Hulu, Microsoft and the SOSC World Games.

During this time, I had also been pursuing wedding planning and production. Weddings are my passion and I truly believe there is no better feeling than bringing a couple’s vision of their big day to life. After working for a wedding company in Los Angeles for 5 years, I decided to take the leap of faith and start my own business and follow my dreams. CMG Weddings & Events was formed. Everyone knows starting your own business is HARD work, but honestly nothing is more rewarding than working hard for yourself and your own goals. With much perseverance and working 24/7 I saw success and brought on an associate planner to help with dates I was already booked for but still getting inquiries for. I also found an amazing opportunity coming on board to exclusively handle a new venue’s wedding coordination and booking/planning process. We are still the new kids on the block, but could not be more excited for what is to come!

My ultimate goal is to have you thoroughly enjoy your day without stressing over the small details. I loves what I do and that shines through to every wedding couple and event I execute.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a new business is never easy. Mandatory sleepless nights, checking emails obsessively and working 7 days a week almost seems like a rite of passage. Struggles along the way for me personally was work/life balance and remembering that a healthy me fuels my company.

Drafting contracts, protecting myself legally with insurance and all the legalities of owning a business were a struggle to me for the sheer fact that is was brand new to me. It was so important to my journey to take the time to meet with consultants, lawyers and tax experts. I am not afraid to say if I am not an expert of something, I will find someone who is to guide me.

CMG Weddings & Events – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
CMG Weddings & Events is an event planning company. We offer different packages depending on the event or desire of the client. For weddings, which is the bulk of our business, we offer month of planning, partial planning and full wedding planning services. We help guide couples through the planning process, refer and manage vendors, create timelines and production memos, run wedding and rehearsal start to finish and above all make sure the couple has an enjoyable planning process and Big Day. By the time the Big Day comes we have built a relationship with the couple and they know they are in great hands. They are able to sit back and relax, sip on some bubbly and thoroughly enjoy their day.

We are known for our timelines. Coming from a corporate background sticking to the timeline is very important. It ensures that everything happens that the couples wants and that nothing is skipped because of lack of time. We are also knowing for our friendliness and bridal emergency kits. I am a firm believer that a smile and genuine kindness goes a long way. Also, a stocked bridal emergency kit will make sure we are prepared for whatever may happen!

I am most proud of the fact that all of our couples loved their experience with us and enjoyed their wedding immensely. We hold ourselves to a high level of customer service and we receive rave reviews and big hugs after every event.

I think what sets us apart from others is just a genuine personal connection we seek to create with our couples. We know we are going on a journey with you and we couldn’t be more excited.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally think success is forever changing. When you reach one goal, you set another. That type of success, I will forever be chasing. But on an everyday level, I think I see success as feeling accomplished after each work day and feeling so fulfilled after an event. If I am able to make a living doing what I love and am passionate about, that is success in the highest capacity.
