Meet Christina Garcia of Love Your Lonjas in Huntington Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Garcia.

Christina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my business about four years ago as a plus size boutique only. I started my boutique because I personally, being plus size, did not find styles that I liked at stores that I shopped at. I always got compliments on my outfits and asked where I got certain things from, so this pushed me to want to share my style with others plus size women. I started my business with doing small events in downtown LA and then started meeting other vendors and they shared about other events to expand my business. As I kept doing these events, I saw that businesses had a message or something that helped them stand out. Being that my passion was deeper than styling plus size women, I came up with the slogan Love Your Lonjas. This meant more to me than styling and plus size fashion. This was a way to connect with other women and share my journey of learning to love my body as it is. I went through a period in my life where I was unhappy with my body and did anything possible to try to lose weight and put my body through crash diets and workouts where I sometimes felt that I was going to pass out because I would only eat once a day. I snapped out of this slump and realized I wanted to share this message with other women and let them know that self-love is a journey and they are not alone.

Now when I do my events and women tell me they could never wear certain things like, crop tops or form-fitting dresses I assure them that maybe they are not able to see themselves in those pieces now but when they decide start their self-love journey they will be able to wear whatever they please. This is why the images I post on my social media page are so important to me to show real plus size bodies. Women are constantly being bombarded with images that show the everyday plus size woman what they should look like. When in reality most of those images are photoshopped and are not ideal for the everyday plus size woman. I have been able to share this message with many women and so happy to see when they flaunt their Love Your Lonjas tees proudly. It has been a process to be able to share my story but when I see how people relate to my journey, it makes me feel happy to know that it makes them feel like they are not alone in trying to learn to love their body and starting their self-love journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road for my business. I have changed my business name and my vision a few times. Once I started to follow my heart and know what I really wanted to do with my business and how to impact women is where I was able to see the direction I wanted my business to move in. When I first started, I was having a hard time finding events to vend at but now there are so many places that look forward to helping smaller businesses grow through putting events together. Social media has helped me expand my brand and get my message out to a larger audience.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Love Your Lonjas – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Love Your Lonjas is a body positive brand that pushes the boundaries in plus size fashion. I love to fill our social media with the everyday plus size body to show our supporters what real bodies are with no photoshop and that we are and should be represented in social media. My goal is to encourage our supporters to embrace their body positive journey and not feel alone. What sets Love Your Lonjas apart from other plus size boutique is our message, it is bold and straight to the point, Love Your Lonjas. At first, when people see the tees they always chuckle and ask about the brand, so it starts the conversation of what the brand represents and what it means to me. I hope to continue to share this message with many more people and spark an interest in starting their body positive journey.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans for my business is to be able to reach out to more people about body positivity. I hope to be able to collaborate with other business who’s message aligns with mine and create body positive events and continue to share that self-love and body positivity is a journey and they are not alone. Besides creating events, I hope to be able to keep creating for my body positive line of Love Your Lonjas and push out my very first clothing collection. I do not plan on stopping with just women’s fashion, I hope to create more styles for children and men because I do believe this is a message that we should share with our children and raise them in a body positive environment.
