Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina E. Rogers.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Third Ward, TX in a single-parent home. We didn’t have much and it always inspired me to dive into books, music and writing. Following in the footsteps of my mother, I started doing music at age 14.
At age 18, I went to Italy on a trip that totally changed my perspective of the world. I returned home, went to college for two weeks and dropped out. Most of my time was spent working jobs just to make money, but at age 23, I moved to Los Angeles and decided to create something bigger.
After a while, I scored a songwriting contract but we weren’t able to continue the contract so when it ended, I decided to start a clothing business. This is how Shop Chriss Zoe started.
As time progressed, I wrote my first novel, recorded a mixtape/album and managed to grow my following and supporters.
After a domestic abuse situation, I decided to create a larger purpose for myself. I wanted to uplift women, encourage them to start their own businesses and speak life into them.
My main goal today at this moment is to do the same for all and focus on uplifting my own culture in these harsh times.
To date, I’ve written and published six titles.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road has definitely not been smooth. I started my company with $200 and I’ve had to figure it out along the way. I am so blessed to be in year 6 of business!
As far as my personal life, I like to make it clear that I go through daily struggles just like everyone else but I’ve overcome them all several times again and again. The main idea in my message is that we all can be greater than we used to be by applying ourselves and staying consistent with what we believe while growing through our ignorance.
We all can stand to learn a thing or two.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shop Chriss Zoe story. Tell us more about the business.
Shop Chriss Zoe specializes in cute and comfy clothing for women.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come and how far my company has come. It’s not easy to stay up and running with big monster brands out there who spend millions of dollars on advertising. I’m so proud of being a black female and a successful business owner.
My personal brand is based off of knowledge and transparency so a lot of what I do and say focuses on making sure that when people come to me they leave with a bit of inspiration or education.
The books I write are for the mind, body and soul and I mostly love to educate through the expression of art.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I usually joke with my friends and say I’m the unluckiest person alive. With that said, I wake up every single morning at the crack of dawn and work my ass off every single day to progress and fulfill what I believe my purpose on this earth to be.
