Meet Christina Barsi of Avant Haüs Media in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Barsi.

Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The first craft I studied and pursued was acting but once I realized I wasn’t enjoying the box the business wanted me to fit into, I took a step back and started focusing more on writing and designing female characters that I would want to play. While creating a series, I had the opportunity to produce it immediately in the form of a podcast after hours at Poobah Records in Pasadena starting in Spring of 2013. That first series was called DIMENSION, a sci-fi/noir audio drama that we ran for two years and were streaming live the first year. From there, I was inspired to create a short documentary called IS ANYONE LISTENING -A PODCAST STORY about this new medium called podcasting, the creation/collaboration process and feature the story DIMENSION. We premiered at Sci-Fi London Film Festival and were nominated for Best Documentary at Filmquest, Utah.

By the end of the film festival circuit, I had quit my day job and decided to lean in completely to podcasting from the angle of production & consulting services, my first client being Laura Clery, a digital media famed comedian. From there, my partnerships grew with The Only One In The Room, which received mention in People Magazine three times and training podcast teams for brands like Lululemon.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel very grateful for the word-of-mouth nature that I have received business as I was starting to build my brand and as I continue. The adage that “you are as great as who you surround yourself with” really proved true for me as I ventured into unknown territory, not just for me but also into a new media. The support system around me, from life-long mentors to new connections, to family and friends are really the backbone to my success. The rest is tenacity, determination, and blind faith and trust. My motto used to be “if it all goes to sh*t, you’ve still lost nothing and only gained a wealth of experience”. This helped embolden me to make mistakes freely, keep learning and walking forward no matter how thick with uncertainty the road seemed at times.

So whether it was a smooth road is a matter of perspective. I think the real question is what keeps you going, and for me it’s those things.

The types of bumps in the road for me were generated from lack of experience in all aspects of production and business. Those things were new to me when getting started and there is still so much to learn but for me that knowledge came with spending time doing it, clocking hours and running into problems. Learning to solve a problem you’ve never had to solve before is a great way to learn the inner workings of anything. So every struggle is really a win if you’re learning from the process.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Avant Haüs Media – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Avant Haüs Media is a company that believes in empowering creators. My journey as an artist was definitely fueled by finding my power, truth and creative voice and I want to create opportunities for others to do the same.

My creative background and my passion for the process is what I believe is my best asset that I bring to working with other creators.

Since I studied acting, writing and self-taught myself the skills of audio production, in-studio and post-production, sound design, format design, directing, and best practices in the podcasting business, in addition to being a certified Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach (and not to mention 19 years in the hospitality industry), my clients receive a very deeply informed and curated process that is designed to nurture and grow them and their message as time goes on. That process includes services like consulting and coaching on creating the content itself, the message and purpose, aligning with an existing business and brand of theirs, identifying their audience and short term and long term goals, creating the best show formats to execute their message & tone, translating that into audio and music, co-writing and editing as needed, in-studio direction, coaching and guiding, all post-production, all set-up and distribution, managing the show, creating educated correlations based on advanced analytics, consulting on marketing and growth as needed and anything in between.

In addition, we will begin to offer digital workshops and other opportunities to grow and learn for creators. Currently, we have a podcast called Be Bold Begin that features short 5-10 minute episodes focusing on actionable tools to combat creative blocks and to put a creator into action.

I am most proud of the standards that we uphold. We care about a creator’s message and their success first. We make sure your production sounds competitive with any big media production out there, we ensure you always have complete creative control, we do everything we can to make you feel supported and that the process is approachable and within your vision. And if there is something that we can’t provide for you, we want to point you in the right direction to fill that gap to keep your creative endeavor going. I think this level of production, attention to detail, and personal care is unique to others working in this space.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to creating more opportunities to engage with the creators during the creative process. We have a mastermind that will launch soon called The Idea Shop where we’ll meet as a group via video conference based on a schedule and a creator can gain access to a community of like-minded individuals to grow their ideas and concepts, as well as direct access to me for coaching and consulting on whatever they are bringing to the table. We are designing more courses and resources (some free) to provide more support and connection. After all, this is a collaborative sport!

We are working towards creating space & opportunities that feel safe, supported and connected to the community as well as learning to connect with oneself and one’s message.
