Meet Christianne Cruz and Callie Bloem of MiLOWE in Mid-City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christianne Cruz and Callie Bloem.

Christianne and Callie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We’re Callie and Christianne, the founders of MiLOWE, a digital parenting mag and artist-driven kids brand.

Christianne: Our daughter stepped into our lives last year and nothing has ever mattered more. Being a parent has opened my eyes to an industry I knew nothing about. I found myself diving into a sea of businesses, researching how these independent ventures have helped to elevate parenting in the 21st century. Kids products have evolved so much, from the use of aerospace materials in car seats, organic and sustainable apparel, better (and cuter) diapers, tech-driven this and smart crib that, tot food delivery services, portable everything and more. I quickly became fascinated with all things parenthood. Before starting this venture, I lived in Toronto and worked in publishing, advertising and sales. After moving to Los Angeles, I pivoted into the entertainment industry working in film/tv at an agency. My best ideas have always come at night. While breastfeeding my daughter, Mia, in a super dark nursery at 3 am, I used the quiet darkness as an opportunity to re-imagine the life I wanted for my family. I made my ordinary days turn into extraordinary nights.

Callie: After my daughter was born in 2017, I decided to leave my career in healthcare tech to focus on writing and producing full-time. My husband and I have been working together on film projects ever since college and after we got married, we starting dreaming of working together full time. Fast forward several years and we opened a small production company, had a baby and decided it was time to take the plunge. Sometimes you just get that feeling and know you need to try something out. That’s how I felt when Christianne first mentioned the idea of working together. My idea of success has always been working with cool people that I liked being around and taking on challenging and exciting new professional adventures with them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Making premium parenting content is our forte. We love ideating and producing. What hasn’t been so smooth? Manufacturing goods is no easy feat, especially when it’s your first time doing it. All of the research, sourcing, budgeting and management processes are riddled with unforeseeable challenges. Owning your own business is a constant juggle – managing relationships, coordinating timing with productions and shipping, balancing personal schedules and commitments… the list goes on. Speaking of lists, we have lots of them with outstanding items. Learning to prioritize has been bumpy because everything feels important at this early stage.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MiLOWE – what should we know?
We’re incredibly proud of our first limited edition baby gift set. What better way to welcome the newest little human than with our ‘Dinos at the Disco!’ themed gift set illustrated by emerging artist, Emma Hastil. What sets us apart? We’re not revolutionary, we’re just millennial parents who get it. From sleep regressions and teething babies to preschool tours and complete strangers in line at the grocery store giving you advice you didn’t ask for – we understand that parent life can be really overwhelming!

Life with our daughters, Mia & Marlowe, is an absolute adventure. Being a parent is tough but somehow we’ve managed to laugh through the exhaustion, throw our hair up, brush crusty stuff off our sleep-deprived shoulders and take parenting day by day. We bonded over the power of cuteness. Even on the hardest days, the small things, like seeing our daughters wearing adorable clothes, makes our stress melt into a smile.

Having a kid is outrageously fun and it’s easy to lose sight of that! Our kids inspire us. We’d like to share a bit of their magic with the moms and dads out there who just get us.

When sh*t gets tough, we hope MiLOWE sparks smile-worthy moments for parents and families!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having the ability to empower talented people to collaborate with us has been crucial to our success thus far. A massive thank you to Chris Ewing, director/producer extraordinaire, for spending countless hours filming us goofing off and then turning it into incredible video assets.
