Meet Chrissie Oppedisano of Chrissie Vocal Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissie Oppedisano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had been singing professionally in Italy and working with a teacher learning songs and style, but I didn’t really have a hold on technique. In 2008, I discovered the SLS method of singing and that I could learn to be a teacher by working with Seth Riggs. So, I became a certified teacher and had a vocal studio in Rome, Italy. I returned to California in 2013 and began to work with the Institute for Vocal Advancement, where I undergo continuing education and rigorous testing every year. I began to perform in musicals and found that the technique I was teaching was so phenomenal that I was getting callbacks and roles for every show I auditioned for. I currently work with all levels of students but especially enjoy working with the professional singers who know that they have to keep their voice in shape at all times! In the studio, in addition to focusing on getting my singers to sing through their vocal range without cracks or breaks, I zero in on performance skills as well! I have had the vocal studio in Tustin, CA since 2013 and work with students worldwide (via Skype) and in the whole Southern California region! On a side note, while living in Italy, I was teaching English diction to Italians who wanted to sing in English. The result of that was two books called AMERICAN DICTION FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS which are sold on Amazon, to help people reduce their foreign accents.

Has it been a smooth road?
Fortunately, it really has been a smooth road, and I think that is because of the great technique that I teach. I stay focused on what I do and what I teach. I work with a great network of like minded teachers throughout the world and we are like a family!

Though becoming a great singer is a process and not an event, clients see immediate improvement in their voices. I think the challenge for me as a teacher is to always be on top of my game! Every voice is different and I am listening so intently to each individual voice and what that voice needs to be better! That is a challenge but it is also so rewarding when you see a “tool” that you use do its magic! And when you see the lightbulb go off in the students’ head, and the ease in which they can sing, that is super rewarding!!!

I also speak Italian fluently which is great for singers training to sing classically. Sometimes a challenge has been helping people to understand that learning HOW to sing is different than WHAT STYLE to sing. If you can learn HOW to sing, then you apply style to what you do!!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chrissie Vocal Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The business is a vocal studio where I teach people how to sing, and I do work on public speaking as well, but the majority of my work is helping singers become the best they can be!

As a company, I am most proud of having built a great reputation through integrity, reliability, inspiration, and encouragement. What sets me apart from others is the great training I have had – i.e., being able to hear what is not functioning in a voice correctly and being able to fix it quickly! People come to Chrissie Vocal Studio because they get results and while it is no “quickie” it has resulted much better singing and healthier singers! I think the other thing that sets me apart is my training and experience as an actress and being able to take a singer beyond technique (just one facet of the diamond) into a moving, heartfelt, real emotional experience in communicating their music or songs they are performing!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Let’s start with the bad first – TRAFFIC! What I like best is that people here always want to grow and better themselves! So many wonderful opportunities in the performing arts be it at a community theatre level or professional performers! Opportunity abounds!
