Meet Chris Martinez of DUDEAgency.io and WebsiteIn5Days.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Martinez.

Chris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After my Dad died of pancreatic cancer in 2007, I decided that I wanted to launch a print soccer magazine. Long story short, that failed miserably and I lost everything I had. I was so broke that I couldn’t take a $20 bill out of the ATM machine. I also had a ton of debt from the business.

I decided to get a sales job to get back on my feet, but being an entrepreneur, I quickly had a new business idea and needed a website. I didn’t have any money so I couldn’t pay someone to build a website for me so I went and watched some online videos and built my first website over the course of a weekend. Keep in mind that up to this point I had never been a “tech” guy so this was a big accomplishment for me. Then over time I started to learn about online marketing and how to drive traffic to websites.

In 2012, I was working for a digital marketing company selling Pay-Per-Click ad management services and I saw that there was a need for small businesses that needed great websites that would help them get new clients.

And that’s when WebsiteIn5Days.com was built and we now have clients all over North America and I think a couple in the UK and I know one in Uruguay.

Five years later, we’ve launched a new division called “DUDEAgency.io”. We are providing unlimited web design and development for agencies, funnel consultants, and digital marketers to help them double, triple, or even quadruple their agencies.

Basically, we are giving these agencies a web dev and design team to help them take on more projects and make more money. We are super excited about DUDE (which stands for Digital Updates Done by Experts) and I’m putting all my energy into this now.

While the business success is great, what I’m most proud of is my mentorship through a program called “Walk With Sally” which pairs up kids who have a parent sick with cancer or have lost a parent to cancer with an adult mentor who has gone through a similar experience. I was paired up with a young man named Patrick and his mother had been battling breast cancer for 4 years when I met him. We were paired in June 2012 and then unfortunately in Dec 2012 she died. Her dying and leaving Patrick (13 at the time) and his sister (10 at the time) was so tragic but before she left us I made a promise to her that I would always look after her kids no matter what. We have had some bumps in the road, but I’m so proud to say that this year he graduated high school and is now going to community college. He and I were also honored with a “Lifetime Friendship Award” at the Walk With Sally event this past summer. Being his mentor has been the greatest decision I’ve ever made and Patrick has inspired me in so many ways.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hell no, it has not been a smooth road!!

We’ve had so many problems along the way, but that is just part of the entrepreneurial journey.

I had zero money when I started this business. I had zero support from family or friends. Nobody gave us any funding or anything like that.

I had to sell all of the clients myself and really put myself out there and go outside of my comfort zone to make it happen. For the two years I worked 7 days a week and I was up until 1am almost every night talking with our Philippines team. I missed weddings, bachelor parties, and nights out with the friends to make this business work.

Luckily, I made some great business connections along the way and these people helped to send me some referrals.

We’ve also dealt with multiple people stealing money from us over the years. In fact, we had an employee steal a computer from us and sell it on craigslist. Last year we had an affiliate steal about $9000 from us. We’ve also had former employees come in and steal clients.

I tore my Achilles tendon in 2014 and had to work from my bed for about 5 weeks.

Again, entrepreneurship is all about overcoming obstacles. Nobody is going to have a smooth road, but in the end, it is all worth it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DUDEAgency.io and WebsiteIn5Days.com story. Tell us more about the business.
When I started Websitein5days.com we provided free custom websites to small business owners in 5 days or less. We have worked with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of small business owners over the years and it’s been really fun.

While we are still maintaining our existing SMB clients, my new focus is on our DUDE program (www.dudeagency.io) where we provide unlimited web design and development for agencies, funnel consultants, and digital marketers to help them double, triple, or even quadruple the size of their agencies. Essentially, we are giving these agencies more manpower to take on more projects and our packages start at just $497/mo. for unlimited web design and development.

I personally know all the challenges that these agency owners face and so I want to use my expertise and people to help these people grow their agencies. Now we can empower them to say “Yes!” to more projects and also give them the support team so that they can stop being a slave to their agency.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if I would call it luck or if I would call it more “the law of attraction”. I’m big on mindset and I believe that whatever your thoughts are will become your reality. But not JUST thoughts. You also need to align your actions with what you really want.

I don’t think we’ve been handed anything. We haven’t randomly had the phone ring with a million-dollar order or we don’t have any videos that have gone viral. We’ve basically just had to grind it out every single day and hit “singles” consistently. So I don’t think luck really has anything to do with our success. Just having the right mindset and the will to keep going even when everything tells you to quit.
