Meet Chris Foreman of Wellness District Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Foreman.

Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As is the case with most entrepreneurs, my journey to this point started with trying to solve a problem: why humans experience pain. As a child, I was quite emotional but didn’t have a safe space to process the pain I experienced. So I did what most boys do: sucked it up, stopped crying, and pretended nothing ever bothered me. Fast forward to present day, I became a functioning adult who never healed from the emotional trauma. That reality began to manifest in my body. Not long after I moved back to Los Angeles from Virginia, I began noticing I was suddenly having severe neck pain. I typically blamed it on my military service, believing it would just go away. It never did. This pain stayed with me for what seemed like years. My doctor was convinced that I’d struggle with the pain for the rest of my life and prescribed me medication. Frustrated with her claim, I began researching alternative methods of healing. I was desperate to try anything that wasn’t opioids or pharmaceuticals.

At the recommendation of a friend, I visited a sound-healing practitioner, Ritch. His treatment uncovered buried emotional trauma I’ve carried since childhood. I discovered my body was telling me something my mind refused to accept: I’ve been carrying too much pain for too long. Shortly after my session, my body began to let go of what I had held onto for so many years. I cried for 3 hours. Through Ritch’s help, I realized I’ve carried intense emotional trauma in my body. But fully letting it go took many sessions of learning to love and accept myself through my pain. On a road trip, my wife Angelique and I talked through what it would be like to have people in our lives that fully supported our mental, physical, and emotional needs. I thought of my father who is a diabetic and suffered through a leg amputation. What if he had a community of experienced wellness professionals who cared for him, body, mind, and spirit? This question began my journey as an entrepreneur, and here we are three years later with Wellness District Los Angeles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For a decade, it seemed like I would dramatically change my career path every three or four years. Along the way, I’ve experienced significant loss in relationships through divorce, subsequent financial ruin, and then fired from a job that didn’t align with the value I provided. Living in a constant state of change and survival takes its toll on you. And I kept telling myself that these struggles made me stronger. I justified the pain in exchange for badges of sacrifice and righteousness in order to create my own “hero’s journey”. Through some deep soul searching, I’ve concluded that people don’t have to experience pain to know their worth. Finding wellness is ultimately a reckoning of the chaos of life with our sense of worthiness; both internally and within community.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My wife, Angelique, has been my biggest support. As I stated earlier, we sat and dreamed of the ideal company that provided all these services in one platform. She’s easily responsible for 50% of the idea. Experienced holistic health partners such as Ritch Wells, Dr. Giancarlo Licata, and Dr. Cathy Ng have proven to be instrumental in representing the quality of care we’re committed to provide. I’m also grateful for our earliest clients, Nathan and Michelle, who saw the value in what we’ve created.
