Meet Chris Cory of Belle & Bizze Candle Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Cory.

Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I started Belle&Bizze (pronounced like Bell and Busy) is really a fun story. I was working a corporate 9-5 job and one afternoon, I had a rough day at work. I came home and decided to pop a bottle of red and sit in the bath and you know, just CHILL. I remember I was laying there thinking about how I would love to start my own business and do something I was more passionate about. No more of this corporate non-sense. I decided to light one of these luxury candles I had purchased from a high-end retailer and all of a sudden all this black smoke started pouring out of the wick and going up my bathroom tile. I thought, geeze I paid good money to have a “high end” candle, that shouldn’t happen. Right? And then a light bulb went off. I was like, I should make my own candles that are an obtainable price point for everyone. I’ve always been passionate about candles and elegant scents. I should look into this.

So I started doing my research and testing and found that there weren’t many (if any) candle companies out there that really gave you high-end products at a price point that was fair for the everyday consumer. I knew I wanted chic, modern, something that was all-natural and mostly made from love. Learning how to make a candle was quite the ordeal and honestly the first few testers that I did were…interesting, lol. It took me many hours, days, months to perfect my product and come out with something that I was proud of. Once I did that, there was of course coming up with a name. I pondered this one for a while as I wanted something from love. The one thing that always gives me pure love in my life are my fur babies, Bella and Izze. (a mini cocker spaniel and a black cat) SO that’s how Belle & Bizze got Its name. My animals.

The business aspect of it comes from multiple places. I focus on websites, social media and doing the farmer’s markets in the Los Angeles area. The response I have received is overwhelming, people really love these candles. My favorite memory is a gentleman came up to smell my candles and literally picked it up, smelled it and he said oh Fu*k, that is the best fffing candle I’ve literally ever smelled in my life. We couldn’t stop laughing. He ended up purchasing the entire line I had out at the time. We’re about to open our first store which is a dream come true for me. It just goes to show you that anyone can do anything they are passionate about and for me, that is candles all made personally and hand-poured by yours truly. 🙂

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, absolutely not. Starting a business is A LOT more work than you would imagine. It takes time, patience and learning. I started this business right before Covid-19 hit. So I literally grew this business during a pandemic. That for me has been the biggest hurdle. There definitely have been times where I have gotten discouraged and I just had to remind myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day and I just keep at it, one day at a time. Grow and love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We focus on making high-end products that are available to the everyday consumer. Just because it is a luxury item doesn’t mean it has to come with a luxury price tag. We’re proud to offer candles and home goods that are made from wooden wicks, all-natural soy wax, and essential oils. Were currently in salons throughout Los angles, farmers markets and are about to open our first store in Glendale! How do you think about happiness?
I think that It’s the people who shed light into my life that make me happy. My family, friends and fur babies. Anything to do with love and positivity is what makes me whole and I think it’s important to surround yourself with those things. How can you be unhappy in LA? This is the land of dreams. This is one of the reasons I branded the company with an LA Theme.
