Meet Cher Rue of Miss California Queen Of Charity in Dana Point

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cher Rue.

Cher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an actress and a Producer and Promoter. I have been in the Plus Size Community for about 20 years, being plus size since I was eight years old. I have always been confident and a person who loves to help others. I decided to help plus size models and plus size designers and starting putting on fashion shows for them.

It was called Rock your curvy Style. It was a huge success. After a few years, I was approached to see if I was interested in being an executive director for a plus-size pageant. I knew nothing about pageants but this was a new experience and I love to do events so I was on my way to learn about pageants. I found people who knew about them and made a team to have the best experience for the contestants.

I learned a lot for the next five years but then after being part of a national pageant, I wanted to do it all on my own. I created a new state pageant that was geared more towards charity which is the part of the pageant system, I was always more interested in from the start. So now, I begin a new journey with an amazing team and plus size Queens to help others in charity work. We had our first online pageant August 2020 and plan on having an in person 2021 pageant April or May.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was a bit rough in the beginning, trying to find the right team that meshed, Some girls were not happy when they lost, and one thing I am very honest and always had people to score and double-check so there was no cheating. You sometimes deal with girls with attitude and they think they are the best but it is all about the numbers and the judges can differ each time. I pick Judges who are experienced and know what to look for and I am confident in their choices.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
This is the first year for my new state pageant Miss California Queen Of Charity, but I can tell you that Miss California Plus America, my former pageant has the best reputation and is very well know on social media. I am known as a very honest and kind person and put my whole self into whatever I do. I am proud of the team I put together and my Lifetime Queens who are always there for me to help out anytime which I am so grateful for.

I think what sets myself apart from others is integrity and kindness and the charity work. It is just who I am always and I am proud of the woman I have become.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I know the plus-size community has been growing and women are more confident in their bodies and clothing is more geared for us which is how it should be. I hope the shift is more plus size women want to show their confidence and compete and be about the world and helping others.

  • Pricing for our new pageant is $300 to apply and then there is funwear fashion and a formal. I try to keep the costs down so more women can afford to be a part of the pageant.
