Today we’d like to introduce you to Charrita Nelson.
Charrita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I actually grew my love for Photography unknowingly thanks to the throw away camera’s from Rite Aid. If I went out to an event, I went to purchase my two pack of cameras. I didn’t do much as a kid growing up so this hobby kind of grew on me. Throughout college, we focused a lot on cameras. One of my electives in college was a photography class.
So had my Canon point and shoot camera while my classmates (mostly guys) had the professional DSLR’s. I thought to myself, “hey they’re over here with these super bomb (bomb was in back then lol) cameras and I’m over here with this little one! If the guys can do it, I can too!” For my graduation present, the ONLY thing I would ask for was money to fund for my camera to show the guys, “I can do it too!” In 2010 the journey officially began. At the time my camera was about $1200 so I said it’s time to make back this INVESTMENT and the rest is history! I remember being on the defense convincing myself that people who hire me will know I’m just starting off so I should start off shooting for free. Then one day, I said NO! In order for people to take me seriously, I must take myself seriously first. Take that leap of faith and rock it! My first paid shoot happened the first time I picked up my new camera and I made a pack with myself to never show that fear and lack of experience had nothing to do with my natural God-given talent.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say it’s pretty much been a smooth road because I’ve enjoyed the process. Meeting new people that I probably never would’ve encountered, traveling, the exciting red carpet events that broke me out of my comfort zone, and more importantly capturing the beauty within people on levels they didn’t or couldn’t see for themselves…….what struggle?
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CR Photo And Design / Charrita Nelson Shoots – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My motto and movement is “Let Me Transform You.” Let me expose the beauty within you that the world needs to see. My specialties are Weddings and Children’s Photography. Both are the most challenging because you can’t relive that beautiful wedding day. The clients aren’t able to relax and enjoy every moment because they’re so stressed and worried about making everything “perfect.” This is where I come in! To capture the client’s “storm” and transform their worries into something so beautiful captured through my lens.
Secondly, the little children! Boy oh boy these shoots turn into a playdate lol. Patience is key! You are on the child’s clock when it comes to these things. They smile when they want to smile, they cry at the perfect moment just when you think it’s time to get the perfect shot, and they end the shoot when they see fit! What sets me apart from the others is it’s not about the money. It’s about the end result and by all means necessary, I make it a point to have a smile on my client’s face the entire time. If they’re nervous, let’s work through it for a moment, let’s have fun, let’s talk through your insecurities. If this takes and extra 30 minutes, let’s get through these icebreakers together. I’m most proud of my company because for the ten years I’ve been shooting, although it’s a strenuous process at times, my clients still and always will come first. If they aren’t happy, I’m not either.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future goals are to become a master at my craft. Rebranding who “Charrita Nelson” truly is. To touch others of all backgrounds. Travel the world and expose other’s beauty that they may not have been able to by themselves.
