Meet Charmaine Hurst of Charlor Talk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmaine Hurst.

Charmaine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I started to be honest with myself. I went to college at La Sierra University and graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, and Masters Degree in Counseling. However, I knew this is not what I wanted to do. Yet, I did not have the confidence to pursue my dreams until these past two years. I looked in the mirror. and was honest with myself that I was unhappy. Yes, I went to school and I no longer want to do this anymore. My passion is counseling but in a different form and Real Estate. But, I still needed to pay bills so I decided to give my degrees a try.

For years, I was not able to secure a job in my field of schooling. So I continued to work at a dealership where I learned so much about the business side of assets. After two years of not being able to utilize my degree I landed a counseling job at an all-girls group home and have recently transitioned into counseling for persons with HIV/AIDS. However, I still felt a void. Last year all of my doubts and fears went out the window. I watched so many people take a leap of faith on their dreams, and it had me wondering WHY NOT ME? This is when I co-created Charlor Talk and went back to school for my Real Estate License. This shows no matter where you are in your life it is best to be honest with yourself and find your true purpose. It is never too late to go back and follow your dreams.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, this has not been a smooth road… Honestly, I struggled with depression, low self-confidence, and anxiety while going through road bumps. However, I believe all things work for my good. So, I continued to pray my way through it. Going through this journey has shown me that what is meant for me will be there for me. But, you may have to go through some things to get it. But, once it get it, sometimes it can be harder maintaining it. My partner Nate Whitmyer helped me realize that these road bumps are not meant to knock you out, but to knock you down so you know how it feels to get up and keep going.
