Meet Charlie Briggs and Aamber Hickman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Briggs and Aamber Hickman.

Charlie and Aamber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started with two old microphones and the desire for something better in life.

After Aamber rummaged through her parents’ house to find things to sell on eBay and ended up finding some microphones. She called me and said “Let’s start that podcast! It’ll either be really lucrative or a really fun waste of time.” The podcast started as a form of self-therapy where we would use our platform to vent about the difficulties in life as black women living in the heart of Hollywood. We knew that there were other women who could relate to our struggles and we wanted to provide content that was far from your typical “Ted Talk.” Since then, it has evolved into a community of entrepreneurs of color and women empowerment.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our biggest challenge is balancing our personal lives with our podcasting lives.

Other struggles include

-matching up our schedules for recordings/photoshoots/networking events etc.

-managing social media profiles and figuring the ever-changing algorithms

-determining what kind of content our listeners want to see/hear

Please tell us about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Ladies Doing Stuff Podcast is created by two Black women who wanted to be the voice that society constantly tries to silence. We speak on topics such as love and relationships, job losses, career changes, failures, and mental health just to name a few. We’re known for “telling it like it is” instead of preaching ideologies and fostering a community of men and women of color who are destined to make an impact on society.

We’re most proud of turning strangers into family and inspiring other women of color to start their own podcasts. We’re set apart from the rest because of our straightforward advice and opinions, and dynamic between hosts. (conservative A-type vs wildflower child)

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the diversity and how it’s filled with intelligent go-getters who stop at nothing to reach their goals.

We don’t like the fact that those same go-getters seem to disregard humanity. Reaching goals sometimes includes stepping on other people’s toes and putting on a front just to get to the top. It’s hard trying to see through the walls that so many people in LA have up. No one wants to be vulnerable which is discouraging.
