Meet Charli Seals of Candid Career Girl in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charli Seals.

Charli, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to LA from Kansas City in 2013 sort of on a whim. A pretty famous rapper and his team rented a house in Palm Springs for a writer’s retreat, and I was asked to be their personal chef’s assistant. Was I particularly interested in culinary arts? No…but I wanted the experience of working in a mansion all day and being around really creative people. The free trip didn’t hurt either.

After the retreat ended, I drove from Palm Springs to LA to spend a little time with some family who had already lived here. I was only supposed to stay for a couple of weeks, but somehow two weeks turned into seven years and here we are!

When I first moved to LA, I slept on a couch in an empty office at a recording studio that my brother owned at the time. I didn’t want to get kicked out (LOL), so I decided to make myself as much of an asset as possible. I started waking up every morning straightening the studio, answering phone calls, and helping with scheduling. Eventually, my brother hired me as the studio assistant, and within two years I was the studio manager. My first summer in LA was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. It wasn’t always a cakewalk, but I got to meet legends, new artists who are now huge stars, and most importantly: some of the loyal clients that I still work with today.

Eventually, I got really tired of couch hopping, so I started hustling to make extra money so I could afford to move into my own apartment. One of my hustles was writing bios for some of the artists and writers who came to the studio and helping them in various ways with personal branding. I’d taken a slew of marketing courses in college, and completed a couple of marketing internships, so I just had a knack for it.

The years that followed was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, but all of my ups and downs is what inspired me to take my love for writing, marketing and helping others and turn it into a business. That’s how Candid Career Girl was born. I call it the one-stop shop for all things career and the lifestyle that comes with it. I enjoy helping people take their dreams from concept to reality.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road! But it’s all been worth it. I’ll tell you why.

When I first moved to LA, I thought my days would immediately start consisting of brunches in Beverly Hills, long weekends in Malibu, and monthly getaways to Vegas or Mexico. I thought I was going to be one of the rare ones who made it big over the course of one summer.

Boy, was I wrong!

Actually, it’s pretty laughable when I think about it. It’s not that I was expecting all of these incredible things to just be handed to me (I’ve never been a stranger to hard work), but I thought I had it all figured out without realizing how tough but rewarding my entrepreneurial journey would be…

I’ve had highs and I’ve had lows. As cliché as it sounds, my lows are why I’m the businesswoman that I am today. My clients also benefit from the not so glamorous parts of my journey because I’ve already made certain mistakes, so they won’t have to. I put my business idea off for years because I thought I couldn’t afford everything I needed to get the ball rolling. But one day I just got tired and decided I was done with the excuses and the “what ifs?” I ended up launching my company for under $200 and I love showing people how!

We would honestly be here all day if I shared the specifics of my struggle to get to where I am now, so I’ll just say there’s no doubt in my mind that I can overcome anything.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I launched Candid Career Girl in 2018 on my 30th birthday. It was my gift to myself. I offer a variety of services, time saving systems, and sales funnels to business owners and personal brands. I help with everything from recruitment and hiring (I’ve worked in HR for two years), content creation, website design, brand/media kits, career development, social media management, copywriting, licensing assistance, and so much more.

Like I said before, I call my company the one-stop shop for all things career and the lifestyle that comes with it because it’s true! And whatever service(s) I don’t provide, I have trusted partners that do. Whether you’re a new or seasoned entrepreneur, once we solidify our working relationship, you truly won’t need to look anywhere else for help with your brand. I got you covered!

Clients really seem to like my career concierge services. Think of all the incredible services that a four diamond hotel concierge’s offer their guest. Now imagine useful services like that, but specifically tailored to the forward-thinking entrepreneur. Not everyone is launching a new brand. Some experienced entrepreneurs just want to maximize their time so they can spend more time with their families or maybe even travel more. My concierge services actually make that possible because we take those grueling to-do list and start checking things off left and right.

I think what sets me apart from others who offer some of the same services as I is how invested I am in seeing my clients win. This just isn’t a job for me. It’s not all about the money. In fact, I share a lot of free information on my company blog and Instagram. As a company, I am most proud of my recent strategic partnership with an amazing company by the name of Hope Equity. You guys will have to stay tuned for the awesomeness that’s about to come out of this partnership!

What were you like growing up?
Honestly, I was the girl who always had her head in a book. I loved reading, writing and creating.

I’m the youngest of five, and my mom said she would sometimes forget I was even in the house because I would be so deep in minding my own business that I wouldn’t leave my room for hours. One of the games I used to love to play was “office.” I’d put on my mom’s heels and pretended my dolls worked for my (LOL). Now that I think about it, I guess I’ve always been CEO minded.

Additionally, I’ve always loved music and art. I’ve never been scared to try new things…even if they didn’t always stick. From cheerleading to piano lessons—if I was the slightest bit interested in it, I had to give it a try. I actually really appreciate my parents for that. For guiding me when it came to finding myself and supporting me in every single little thing that I did. Even to this day, I feel happy and safe when I see their faces in the crowd.
