Meet Champ Powell of THE G2G BRAND in Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Champ Powell.

Champ, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Coming from Baltimore, I was always surrounded by entertainers or aspiring entertainers, but the thing about the youth where I’m from – they have no “good” mentors to help and guide them. Whether it be professionally or personally, leadership and individuality are missing from the city.

In high school, I dealt with depression. I was getting in trouble with my mother and tension was high in my household. More importantly, the tension was high within myself mentally. I was doubting myself and questioning my own life. I was talking to God and building the relationship and during that time, God sent me on a mission and allowed me to find my purpose. I am on this Earth in order to motivate, inspire, and create opportunities through sports and entertainment. It wasn’t until a few months later did I make a plan of how I would fulfill my purpose.

A simple “bro you know every player in the county, you should be a scout or something” from my good friend Zion McFarland [DB at Lincoln University] would begin my journey in sports and entertainment. I began to explore the different pathways and career options and talking to more industry professionals. I soon envisioned myself as a sports agent and began to chase that dream. About a year later, I jumped into artist management [in addition to athlete representation] and it brought me to where I am today – still learning and progressing.

I believe that to be a successful sports agent and/or artist manager, you must be genuine and willing to grow at all times. You must be able to connect with everyone, be selfless, and sacrifice for what you believe in. As an agent & manager, I want to offer all of my “clients” growth in all areas of life as well as support and assistance with whatever venture that may be. I want to be a friend/family first. It’s so much more than just a job or a career, it actually a lifestyle. Eat, Sleep, and Breathe this. Seeing my people succeed is what brings me satisfaction.

I now manage five music artists, all of which are based in the Baltimore area. Clients include YaeDaOne, Divinchi, TNL Nate, Lor TJ, and AB.

Additionally, I am a graphic designer & mentor.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in entertainment is a “smooth road”. Nothing in life is a “smooth road”. If it was everyone would be trillionaires and stress-free. If life went smoothly, it wouldn’t be so much creativity used in the day to day life. Less artwork, boring clothing and music, etc. It’s the struggles that create a unique lane. Everyone everywhere has struggled but it’s the ones that know how to react when they are in a jam that comes out with a win. I believe that I truly have a superpower delivered from God to be able to turn any negative into a positive.

No matter how bad, you must be able to see how you can turn it into a benefit in order to push you into a better man/woman. You’ll hear a lot of “no”‘s before you hear your first yes but you have to use that to fuel the fire. Not to mention that I come from Baltimore, a place where hope is rare and death is expected. I believe that my biggest trial and tribulation would be myself. We are our biggest enemies and dealing with depression makes it no easier. However, with God’s help, anything is possible.

“Impossible” is impossible without the word “possible” – Champ Powell

THE G2G BRAND – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
THE G2G BRAND is an emerging entertainment management company founded on love, loyalty, and belief based in Baltimore, MD. Currently offering services that include artist management, music distribution, & graphic design. Known for our positive impact and approach. We are separated from other companies because unlike most companies, we treat our team like family instead of co-workers and clients. Also, unlike most entertainment companies, we offer graphic design and mentorship [Coming Soon].

THE G2G BRAND started as “GTI” in 2016 when I was in high school. It was simply a group a guy, a brotherhood essentially, that shared a goal of making money. As time past, substance built and people began to gravitate to the movement of “Getting To It” and “Get Great Or Get Gone” – which means if you are not willing to grow and help us progress as a team then you are in the way. We want to make an impact and lead the generation as the minorities that succeed when the odds when against them.

GTI became THE G2G BRAND in late 2017 in a dorm room with my partner, Micah Norris, and myself. I am the Founder & Head Artist Manager and he [Micah] serves as the Chief Financial Officer

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success has a different meaning for everyone. Success is minimal to me. I’m chasing “GREATNESS”. Creating a legacy. I will have reached my goal when I no longer need to introduce myself and when I have created lanes that will allow the generations after me to be great. As an agent, I will have reached my goal when I help my athlete sign the desired deal(s) and bring in lasting revenue for the athlete. As a manager, I strive to help my artists create hits and be the best they can be on both sides of the microphone. I will have to succeed as a professional and as a person when I have fulfilled my purpose of motivating, inspiring, and creating opportunities.
