Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Krivitsky.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As long as I remember myself (probably 4 years old), I was always interested in medicine, specifically surgery. As a child I always played doctor, mixing red paint and pretending that I was drawing blood. The highlights of my childhood were the days I spent visiting doctors and hospital where I always managed to convince a healthcare practitioner to give me some medical tools or devices that I could take home with me.
This was my dream. I knew from early on that in order to get there, I needed to study well and maintain straight A’s. I did just that in Odessa, Ukraine where I was born. At the age of 12 I moved to US and continued my educational goal. Since educational system was slightly different in the US, I got to skip a grade and ended up graduating high school and entering University at the of 16. Being so young and in a large Bio 101 class wasn’t exactly what I imagined my education to be. I did not love that I had to go through whole 4 years of general education at the university level before I could start learning about medicine and I began to doubt if chose the right path. During my second year, I accidentally happened to meet a friend in a class. After our final exam, she begged me to stop by USC dental school so she could get an application for a Dental Hygiene program. While sitting next to her, the program counselor asked me what my plans for the future were and when I expressed my doubts, he offered me an application too. I applied because I thought it was a smart choice of Baccalaureate degree with which I could pursue medical school if I still was up to it in 2 years. At 17, I got accepted to the program and believed that it must have been fate, LOL.
After 2 years of the program, I fell in love with the dental field and at that point had no doubts that this was the right path. During my 1st year, I met my husband who was starting his residency in Periodontics. Observing him during his 3 years of residency, made me rekindle my passion and realize that the field of Periodontics is my road to getting back into surgery. I pursued the specialty at USC. After graduating, my husband and I started our own practice together in Brentwood, CA. This is where we both practice what we love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It most definitely hadn’t been a smooth road. I had many struggles, mainly doubts and lack of guidance and mentorship. What helped me figure it all out, is staying focused on my original goals and true to what I wanted to achieve. Meeting my husband along the way, helped me tremendously to reach my goal.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Center for Advanced Periodontal & Implant Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
I own a practice limited to Periodontics and Dental Implants in partnership with my husband in Brentwood, CA.
We are very proud of starting our practice from scratch and succeeding in one of the most competitive areas of Los Angeles. From the start, we both had a goal to help our patients while building personal relationships and friendships with each one of them.
We built our state of the art facility to have exactly the same color scheme and feel as our home, so we can host our patients as if they were guests in our home. We take pride in being a family business and treating each one of our patients as a family member. We give out our personal mobile phone numbers to each one of patients and are proud to make each one of them feel that we care and are always available to help. Our practice, staff and our patients is an extension of our family.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I guess you could say I have “good luck.” But I am a true believer in accomplishments primarily generated by clearly defined goals, hard work and persistence.
