Meet Celine Elise Alvarez of Inner Growth Therapy in Atwater Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celine Elise Alvarez.

Celine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was originally trained as a graphic designer and was feeling trapped in my career and wanted to make more of an impact on society. So I decided to begin teaching art to children.

One afternoon, I was teaching one of the children and he uncovered a traumatic event and then covered the entire paper with magazine clippings. At this point, I realized how powerful the process of creating artwork was and I desired to become an art therapist. I went back to school, to gain a minor in psychology and became eligible for my Masters in Psychology to fulfill my passion to become an art therapist.

Now, 6 years later, I am a fully licensed therapist and Registered Art Therapist. In my private practice, I specialize in trauma, identity and addiction for teens and adults. I also work with couples that are having difficulty communicating and connecting as they once did in the past.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it is not been a smooth road, becoming a therapist has been one of the most difficult things that I have ever done. At times it felt like the universe didn’t want me to become a therapist because of all trials and tribulations, I had to go through along the way. My life basically fell apart when I decided to become a therapist. I had to face my own family of origin stuff, my own traumas and practice what I preach. But I have survived and thrived through the process. I believe that all the greatest healers have been wounded themselves. I believe this makes me a better therapist and healer.

Having your own business is an act of faith and belief that the universe will take care of you. It is learning to believe in one’s abilities. And be willing to be in the unknown and falling without a net. This is a daily practice for me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Inner Growth Therapy – what should we know?
