Meet Ceci Quezada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ceci Quezada.

Ceci, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in becoming a Professional Makeup Artist started while attending Barbizon School of Modeling and Acting. I fell in love with the transformation process and the finished look the Makeup Artist did on my face. I felt so confident and empowered. In 2006, I attended Esthetician school where I learned the skin anatomy, color theory, and The basics of Special FX.

Soon after graduating, I started working at Sephora Inside JCP. I expanded my knowledge and creative interest in makeup and skincare. While working at Sephora, I started building my clientele working on weddings and special events and building my portfolio.

Right before moving to Los Angeles, I competed In Las Vegas for Makeup Forever’s national Artist competition. I came in winning top 25 our of 600 nationwide. I was inspired after that win and started attending different classes in LA at IMATS, (International Makeup Artist Trade Show). Prior to Instagram, Facebook and Google, I found a community of Professional Makeup Artists and aspiring Artists like myself where we asked questions and helped each other out on how to create certain looks. I read  tirelessly on how-to enhance my craft to help me prepare for my future successes.

I left my home town and moved to LA in 2014. I started working for a beauty store, Naimies, where I met so many amazing and talented Makeup Artists. I built friendships that lead to my first few jobs in working in Lifetime films and my first on-screen film, Beyond Skyline. Fast forward, I currently work along side several production studios as a freelance Professional Makeup Artist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, I was told I would never be a successful Makeup Artist, that I was not good enough and I was not an “Artist”. With every negative comment, it made me stronger to believe in myself and to stay focused on my goal. I am grateful for my family and friends for always believing in my craft. Even when times were tough.

There was a point in my life where I could not financially afford to go to the best Makeup schools. I was heartbroken that I could not afford the one school I dreamed of, Stick Art Studio by Corrine Perez in Barcelona. I felt helpless, I felt I failed. I felt I was never going to make it out of my home town. I started believing the negative comments people made of me of never becoming a Professional Makeup Artist. Eventually, I figured out a way to self educate by reading books like; Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, How To Become a Professional Makeup Artist, The Professional Makeup Artist by Joe Blasco, Making Faces by Kevyn Aucion and Stick Art Experience, Language of Makeup artist-up by Corrine Perez.

In this Industry, I have learned loyalty is very important. It’s a great feeling to  receive callbacks for future jobs and being recommended to new Clients for doing a great job. Despite all the challenges I have faced, yes this industry is tough, but I believed in myself and worked very hard to continue to build my portfolio and continue to enhance my craft.

Please tell us about Ceci Quezada.
I am a Professional Makeup Artist. I specialize in Film, TV, Editorial, Red Carpet and Special events. You may have seen some of my work on TV or at your local stores and didn’t even know it.

It’s an emotional feeling when my work is seen on TV, online, on poster boards around the world and on screen. I don’t think I could pick just one proud moment. In every opportunity, I am always proud of my work.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change my journey at all, I think the challenges and accomplishments have made me the Artist I am today.
