Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Petrey.
Cassie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My business partner and I started Crowd Surf because we loved social media marketing, but in 2007, there weren’t a lot of corporate jobs with the record label system. We were both working at Warner Music Nashville as temporary employees, and there wasn’t a “community manager” job or anything else like that at the time. We wanted to keep growing our careers in social media because we loved what we were doing, but didn’t want to be temps forever.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I would never have expected it to be. You learn a lot of lessons like that people don’t always pay their bills on time (or at all). You learn what questions to ask in an interview, and how to avoid pitfalls of past hires and consultants. Every bump in the road has made us better as paving the road into the future though and I’m happy we’ve experienced every challenge. It’s made our business better and stronger.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Crowd Surf – what should we know?
Crowd Surf is a full-service talent solutions and marketing agency. Our bread and butter are digital marketing services – but we’ve evolved over the years to be able to provide many additional services to our clients. Some of these things include artist management, merchandise design + production, video production, copyright infringement protection services, and more.
What were you like growing up? Personality wise, interest wise, etc.?
I really feel like the same person I was when I was 12. I loved the Backstreet Boys (and just music and concerts and general), and loved the internet and chatting on AOL. I’ve just evolved and become better at those skill sets with age!
