Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Jamison.
Carrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Tiny Tot Dress Shop was originally owned by my husband’s mom several years ago. In 2010 my mother in law unfortunately passed away from cancer and the business took a back seat in the family’s life. Years went by where the family worked on keeping Tiny Tot Dress Shop alive however no one had the time to focus on it whole heartedly. Then, in 2016 I was approached with the offer to take over as owner of Tiny Tot Dress Shop and I happily took on the challenge to build up the business to what it had once been.
Since owning Tiny Tot Dress Shop I have focused on creating an attractive, easy to use website, generating a loyal following on social media and getting out in the community working at various markets where I can set up a booth as a vendor and connect with people face to face.
I also have put my own spin on the shop bringing in new on trend styles each season so customers always have something new to see and I have put an emphasis on seeking out high quality designers that have competitive pricing. So what Tiny Tot Dress Shop has become known for is offering beautiful dresses for every occasion, fancy or casual, at very affordable prices. All of these endeavors have worked really well in bringing new customers to shop on the website as well as bringing back previous customers who remember buying dresses from my mother in law.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely bumps and definitely some struggles! As with any start up business I think this is the norm but when you are dealing with it firsthand it seems like a bigger deal than you ever could have thought!
Before I decided to stay home with my kids as a full time mom my background was in retail management and in outside sales for swimwear designers, so teaching myself how to build a functioning website was challenging. I never really considered myself a computer or “techie” type person and building the Tiny Tot Dress Shop website took many hours of sitting at the computer, figuring out how to enter product and inventory and upload product shots…. I could go on and on. I spent a lot of time watching tutorials and I admit…. I shed some tears at times thinking I wasn’t good enough to take on this business. Between my struggles of understanding the admin/back end of the website and doing all the full time mom stuff as well, there were times I thought I would never get the website up and running successfully.
But you know what… I didn’t quit, and I just kept on working every day little by little until I was ready to launch the “new” Tiny Tot Dress Shop. Since the launch, Tiny Tot Dress Shop has been growing day by day and I continue to attract new and old clientele. I love the support that my community and family has shown me and I am going to keep working on gaining more and more exposure so people know there is a place to buy fancy and affordable dresses for their little girls!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tiny Tot Dress Shop story. Tell us more about the business.
We provide our customers with a huge selection of little girl’s dresses for all occasions in sizes 6 months to size 8. We have everything from casual summer dresses, to fancier dresses such as flower girl dresses, Christmas, Easter, baptisms, first communion and birthday girl dresses.
Being a mom of two little girls myself, I know that buying special occasion dresses for events such as family photos, holidays and weddings can get really expensive! My focus since taking over Tiny Tot Dress Shop has been to provide beautiful dresses at cost effective pricing. I am super proud to say that Tiny Tot Dress Shop has come to be known as the place to go for “fancy and affordable” dresses. I spend a lot of time seeking out designers that have really cute and unique dress designs yet are still sold at reasonable pricing so I can pass those savings on to my customers.
There is something special that happens when a little girl puts on a pretty dress…. they want to twirl and dance and you can just tell they feel like a princess. The fact that I am able to provide families the means to afford these types of dresses so they get to see their own little girls light up while wearing a fancy dress makes me feel so fulfilled and proud of what I do. Just as my business slogan says, Tiny Tot Dress Shop really is the place “Where Everyone’s A Princess”. But I have to say most of all having my two girls be a part of this business and watch me work at something that I love while having fun is the most rewarding part of it all.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel very lucky that I was approached to take over Tiny Tot Dress Shop! It easily could have been sold but I was lucky enough that my husband’s family thought I could take on the challenge of building the business back up to where my mother in law originally had it.
