Meet Caroline Liem, Christy Faison, and Jami Rudofsky of the Village Acting Studio in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Liem, Christy Faison, and Jami Rudofsky.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Caroline, Christy, and Jami. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We met years ago as casting directors and teachers and always gravitated toward one another because of our passion for actors. One night over drinks at Christy’s house, we realized that our ideal studio could be created with the three of us at the helm. Six months later, the Village Acting Studio was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anytime you start a passion project, you’re going to encounter some challenges. We had concerns about location, space, and infrastructure. And while we are three like-minded individuals with the same goals, we all have different strengths and ideas when it comes to running a business. It took a minute to figure how to utilize our individual strengths but once we did, everything fell into place and we were able to focus on our students.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in catering to the needs of the individual actor as well as the class as a whole. Each actor is coming to us with different needs and wants, we listen and provide an environment where their needs will be met in a group setting. We know how stressful an audition can be for an actor so we strive to humanize the audition process and lessen the anxiety associated with that process. We’re unique in that not only do we help improve their audition technique, we prepare them to do their best work with confidence when they book the job. Our classes support and encourage each other and it’s amazing to see a group get behind each other with the belief that a win for one is a win for all.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Humanity. Each person who walks through our doors is just that– a person, just like us. The life of an actor can be very isolating. So, we created a space that fosters connections, a support system and the ability to be human without judgment and that in turn leads to success.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA’s diversity is rich. You can easily immerse yourself in almost any culture and cuisine with a feel of being in a different country without ever leaving the city. LA also offers so many ways to balance the work week – going to the beach, hiking our great canyons, snowboarding, pop-ups, farmers markets… It really has something for everyone. Driving to these spectacular views and events can be challenging, especially in 100 degree heat in our famous LA traffic. Actors come to our studio with different cultural backgrounds, humor and life experiences and for us, this uniqueness and authenticity is embraced.
