Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen and Luis Uribe.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our story begins way back in the late 1970’s. I was born into a home where my father’s profession was being a gardener meantime in the same vicinity but not knowing each other Luis’s dad was in the same trade. We were both born into the trade and fast forward to 1994 which is when we met at a nursery where my father bought his supplies which casually belonged to Luis’s brother. We were married young and at the time Luis was working alongside his dad in a gardening route they both founded in 1994 at the time I was working at Albertsons in the floral department. It was until about the time his father retired that we decided that it would be best for me to help out in the gardening route that they had established and was known as Green Image Gardens. In 2006, we shook things up and reinvented the company from the ground up. Although things were okay we decided to go professional and take it to the next level in the year 2006. We changed the company name to A Greener Tomorrow Inc. Luis went and became a professional c27 licensed landscaper and I decided that I would become a professional landscape designer which I accomplished in 2012.We now have a combined 25-year experience and we love what we do. We have worked with a-list celebrities, multiple franchises and many schools. We also help beautify our community as much as we can. Our company has been very successful and we owe it to the work ethic, knowledge and professional way in which we work,
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road as any small business knows. Our business has been based in the same location since 1994 and we are a community staple but our trade is severely affected by the weather patterns, we were hit pretty hard with the everlasting drought from like 2011 to now. There were too many pop up companies spreading in gravel almost for free as people panicked over removing their lawns to save water. Luckily, we are always quick, savvy and informed with the latest trends and information which helps us pass it along to our clients. Many of our clients were scammed by the very same pop up companies that were collecting rebates and basically ripping off consumers. Consumers that have been left with a sea of gravel in their yards. We still feel the effects but this year business is booming and we feel blessed.
A Greener Tomorrow – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a very small landscaping company. We specialize in implementing new designs that are functional and are environmentally responsible. We are a full design company where nothing is outsourced. The design is visually created and brought to life by us. We are very proud to say that our company stands 100% behind our workmanship because we do the work we do not outsource which means that if we do not do our job right we are not going to thrive. We are apart from many companies because the designer and the contractor are one company so there is no battle or room for miscommunication or business conflicts. Also, we are glad to say that our designs are 100% free when the job is booked that is hard to beat because a design will take up to 25 hours and can run up to a couple thousand dollars, with us that is a thing of the past. If you buy a design and you book the job we will not charge you a penny for it. Our designs are inexpensive and typically run from $250 to $500 for a very large yard. Our goal is to earn the clients trust. We are known for our efficiency and doing things right from the very first time.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is being able to enjoy life and provide to your loved ones, and the people that work for you a better quality of life. It also means that I can look back at my life and see how far we have come and feeling blessed about the here and the now. Our priority is to leave our descendants a legacy that they will cherish and feel proud of.
